4 · What to do in Finland, and what your phone needs for it

Eight places most first trips include, from Helsinki and its sea fortress to Porvoo, Turku, the lakes, Koli, the Arctic Circle and the northern lights of Lapland, with the one thing your data does for you at each. Finland pays by card and by phone almost everywhere, so a working connection does a lot of the work.

5 · If you want unlimited for two weeks or a month: Ringo Light

Finland is bigger than it looks on the map, and most trips go further than Helsinki: a train to Turku, a week at a lake cabin, the night train north to Lapland. For 15 days, Airalo asks $48, Saily $48.99 and Holafly $50.50. For a month, $69, $71.99 and $73.90. Ubigi is cheaper at $29 and $39 for a fixed amount at full speed. Nomad stops at 10 days. Ringo Light charges $12.99 for 2 weeks and $21.99 for 30 days, one payment each, nothing renews.

Read what unlimited means before you pick. Airalo gives 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps. Saily gives 5 GB a day, Nomad 2 GB. Ubigi gives 30 GB for 15 days or 60 GB for the month, then 2 Mbps. Holafly states no daily cap for your own phone and limits sharing to 1 GB a day. Ringo Light is unlimited data at full speed, for 2 weeks or 30 days.

For a short trip, Ringo Light sells no 3-day or 7-day plan. Nomad sells 3 days of unlimited at $11, and Ubigi a week with 20 GB at full speed for $19.

6 · Which network works best in Finland

Finland has three networks: Elisa, DNA and Telia. All three cover Helsinki, Turku, Tampere and the rail lines well, with 5G in the cities, and all three reach the Lapland towns and ski resorts. Holafly lists all three. Airalo rides DNA, and Ubigi DNA and Telia; Saily and Nomad do not name theirs. Between villages in the far north and out on the fells, any network can drop out for long stretches, so an offline map is wise whichever eSIM you buy.

7 · If you want a data bucket: Ubigi or Nomad

  • Ubigi, $11 for 10 GB. The cheapest 10 GB for 30 days, on DNA and Telia with 5G, installed by QR code. It sells no 20 GB Finland plan; the next step is 50 GB for $37.
  • Nomad, $16 for 10 GB. The cheapest 20 GB for 30 days at $20.
  • Airalo, $15.50 for 10 GB. Its Finn Communications plan on DNA: 20 GB for $22, buckets from $4 for 1 GB.
  • Saily, $15.99 for 10 GB. 20 GB at $22.99. Its listing is from June; saily.com would not load for us.
  • ✓Ringo Light, no buckets. Our 2 weeks is unlimited for $12.99 and our 30 days unlimited for $21.99. For 10 GB that lasts a month, Ubigi at $11 is the better buy, and Nomad sells 20 GB for $20, $1.99 less than our month. We would rather you read that here than at checkout.

Is an unlimited eSIM really unlimited in Finland?+
Every brand has a limit somewhere. Airalo slows you after 3 GB a day, Saily after 5 GB, Nomad after 2 GB, Ubigi after its fixed full-speed amount. Holafly states no daily cap for your own phone. Ringo Light is unlimited data at full speed.
Will my eSIM work in Lapland?+
In Rovaniemi, the ski resorts and along the main roads, yes: the Finnish networks reach them all. Between villages and out on the fells the signal can disappear for long stretches on any eSIM. Download offline maps before you drive or walk out, and keep the phone in an inside pocket, because hard frost drains a battery fast.

Each rival's price comes from its own website where it showed dollars, otherwise from an esimdb.com listing, and every source and its date is listed below. Ringo Light's prices come from the catalogue our checkout charges.

We compare the trips people actually book: a week, two weeks and a month of unlimited data, and a 10 GB bucket. We read each brand's fair use and speed rules and quote them as the brands state them. We did not run speed tests, so this page makes no speed claims for any brand.
