4 · What to do in Gabon, and what your phone needs for it

Eight places most first trips include, from Libreville and the beaches across its estuary to the savanna of Lopé, the coast of Loango and the rainforest of Ivindo, with the one thing your data does for you at each. The towns have 4G; the parks mostly do not, so plan your downloads.

5 · If you want unlimited for two weeks or a month: Holafly or Ubigi, not us

Most Gabon trips run ten days to two weeks: a few days in Libreville and across the estuary at Pointe Denis, then the train to Lopé, or a flight to Port-Gentil and a boat to Loango. Only Holafly sells two weeks of unlimited data for Gabon itself: $63.50 for 15 days. Ringo Light asks $63.99 for 2 weeks, 49 cents more. Airalo's Gabon unlimited stops at 10 days, at $46, and Ubigi's Best World global plan gives 30 GB at full speed for 15 days at $77.

For a month the gap is wider. Ubigi's Best World global plan gives 60 GB at full speed for 30 days at $108, then 2 Mbps, and Holafly sells 30 days of unlimited at $111.90. Ringo Light asks $124.99, $13.09 more than Holafly and $16.99 more than Ubigi. We would rather you read that here than at checkout.

Read what unlimited means before you pick. Airalo gives 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps. Ubigi gives a fixed amount, then 2 Mbps. Holafly states no daily cap for your own phone, says the network may slow you for up to a day under fair use, and limits sharing to 1 GB a day. Ringo Light is unlimited data at full speed, for 2 weeks or 30 days.

For a short trip, Ringo Light sells no 3-day or 7-day plan. Airalo sells 3 days of unlimited at $19.50, 7 days at $39 and 10 days at $46, each cheaper than our 2 weeks.

6 · Which network works best in Gabon

Gabon has two mobile networks: Airtel, the larger, and Moov Africa, the former Gabon Telecom. Both cover Libreville, Port-Gentil, Franceville and the towns along the main roads with 4G. Holafly and Nomad ride Airtel; Airalo and Ubigi ride Moov Africa. Saily does not name its network.

Most of Gabon is rainforest, and signal stops soon after the last village. Holafly's own page warns of weak coverage in parts of Loango, Lopé and Ivindo. Lodges in the parks usually have Wi-Fi, not mobile data. Download offline maps and anything you need before you leave the towns, whichever eSIM you buy.

7 · Local SIMs, registration and mobile money

A Gabonese SIM has to be registered to an identity document. A visitor shows a passport at an Airtel or Moov Africa shop and waits for the line to be set up. A travel eSIM installs at home before you fly, needs no shop, and connects when you land at Léon M'ba International Airport in Libreville.

Many Gabonese pay by phone with Airtel Money and Moov Money, which need a local number that a travel data eSIM does not give you. Cards work in the larger hotels and supermarkets of Libreville and Port-Gentil; carry CFA francs for taxis, markets and anywhere outside the two cities.

  • Nomad, $35 for 10 GB. For 30 days on Airtel, level with Airalo. Its largest Gabon plan.
  • Ubigi, $39 for 10 GB. On its Best World global plan, for 30 days; its Gabon plans stop at 3 GB for $18. Best World also sells 25 GB for 90 days at $59.
  • Saily, $39.99 for 10 GB. For 30 days, its largest Gabon plan. Its listing is from May; saily.com would not load for us, so check the price at checkout.

Do I need to register a SIM in Gabon?+
A local Gabonese SIM, yes: you show your passport at an Airtel or Moov Africa shop and wait for the line to be set up. A travel eSIM is installed before you fly and works when you land in Libreville, with no shop. It carries data only, so it does not give you Airtel Money or Moov Money.

We priced Airalo, Holafly, Saily, Nomad, Ubigi and Ringo Light for Gabon on 28 September 2026, all on the same day, in US dollars. Each rival's price comes from its own website where it showed dollars, otherwise from an esimdb.com listing, and every source and its date is listed below. Ringo Light's prices come from the catalogue our checkout charges.

We compare the trips people actually book: a week, two weeks and a month of unlimited data, and a 10 GB bucket. We read each brand's fair use and speed rules and quote them as the brands state them. We did not run speed tests, so this page makes no speed claims for any brand.
