Price: the same trip at each

For a week, Airalo asks $27; Ringo Light sells no 7-day plan, and its 2 weeks at $22.99 costs $4.01 less than Airalo's week, with a week of days left over. For 15 days Airalo asks $48, against $22.99 for 2 weeks. For a month, Airalo asks $71 and Ringo Light $36.99.

For a fixed amount of data, Airalo is the only one of the two that sells it: 1 GB from $4, 10 GB for 30 days at $19, 20 GB for 30 days at $30. Ringo Light sells no buckets. Its 2 weeks of unlimited at $22.99 costs $3.99 more than Airalo's 10 GB, and it lasts 2 weeks, not 30 days. If you need a little data to last a whole month, Airalo's 10 GB is the better buy, and we would rather you read that here than at checkout. The 10 GB chart above shows the two side by side for that reason.

The two-week chart sets Ringo Light's 2 weeks against Airalo's 15 days, as the full comparison does, because Airalo sells no 14-day plan. The month chart is like for like, 30 days at each.

What unlimited means at each

Airalo's unlimited for the Philippines gives 3 GB a day at full speed, then slows to 1 Mbps until the next day. That is enough for maps, messages, photos and an hour or two of video; a long evening of streaming in HD will hit it, and a laptop on the hotspot will hit it sooner. Ringo Light is unlimited data at full speed for the whole 2 weeks or 30 days, with no daily figure. Fair use policy, see Terms.

Networks and coverage in the Philippines

The Philippines has three networks: Globe, Smart and DITO, the newest and smallest. Globe and Smart both cover Manila, Cebu and the main tourist towns. Signal thins out on the boats between islands, in the lagoons of El Nido and Coron, and in the mountains around Banaue, whichever network you ride. Airalo names Smart. On an island-hopping trip, save your bookings and maps offline before each boat.

Installation, app and support

Airalo needs its app. Ringo Light needs no app; the eSIM arrives by email in seconds and installs in one scan from the QR code. Whichever you pick, install it at home on Wi-Fi before you fly and switch it on for data when you land in Manila.

What Ringo Light is, and what it is not

Ringo Light is our own data eSIM, sold to fund the full Ringo, one plan that works everywhere with your own number ported onto it. For the Philippines it sells two trips, both unlimited data at full speed: 2 weeks at $22.99 and 30 days at $36.99. One payment, nothing renews, no app.

What it is not: it is data only, with no phone number, so calls go over apps that use data. It sells no buckets, no 3-day plan and no 7-day plan. It names no network. There is no app and no balance screen, because there is nothing to count. If you want 10 GB to last a month, 3 days, or a Smart plan by name, Airalo is the better buy. For unlimited at two weeks or a month, Ringo Light is the cheaper of the two by a wide margin.

The full comparison for the Philippines, with Holafly, Saily, Nomad and Ubigi priced the same day, is at /blog/best-esim-for-philippines. The card to buy Ringo Light is further up this page, just after the side-by-side table.
