Prices read on 28 September 2026. Six travel eSIMs get most of the traffic for this search, and three of them sell a plan that works in New Caledonia: Nomad, Ubigi and Ringo Light. We checked all six on the same day, for a week in Nouméa, two weeks with the islands and a month, and read the fine print. Ours is the only unlimited plan and by far the most expensive, and this page says plainly who is cheaper.
Ringo Light: Unlimited with no speed cap, one payment, and the only plan that tops itself up. 2 weeks at $139.99 or 30 days at $277.99, one payment each, nothing renews. It is not the cheap option here: Ubigi sells 10 GB for 30 days at $59, $80.99 less than our 2 weeks, and 60 GB a month for $120, $157.99 less than our 30 days.
Ubigi: Cheapest two weeks, cheapest month and cheapest 10 GB. 3 GB for 15 days at $29 and 10 GB for 30 days at $59 on its Oceania plan, 20 GB a month at $44 on its World plan, on OPT. Its local New Caledonia 10 GB is $77.
Nomad: A small local plan on Mobilis. 1 GB for 7 days at $15 and 3 GB for 30 days at $35, 4G. Nothing bigger for New Caledonia.

New Caledonia is an expensive place for travel data, and only three of the brands we priced sell anything for it. No rival sells unlimited. Ubigi comes closest: 10 GB for 30 days at $59 on its Oceania or World plan, 20 GB a month at $44 and 60 GB a month at $120 on its World plans, which renew monthly until you cancel, the 60 GB then slowing to 2 Mbps. Nomad stops at 3 GB for 30 days, $35. Ringo Light charges $139.99 for 2 weeks and $277.99 for 30 days, one payment each, nothing renews.
So we lose here. For two weeks, Ubigi's 10 GB at $59 is $80.99 less than our 2 weeks. For a month, Ubigi's 60 GB at $120 is $157.99 less than our 30 days, and its 20 GB at $44 is $233.99 less. What our price buys is no speed cap: the 2 weeks starts with 10 GB and the 30 days with 20 GB, and when you have used 80% we add 10 GB once and charge the $139.99 top-up. A heavy two weeks with us costs $279.98 and a heavy month $417.98. Unless you really want no cap at all, Ubigi is the better buy in New Caledonia. We would rather you read that here than at checkout.
For a short trip, Ringo Light sells no 3-day or 7-day plan. Nomad sells 1 GB for 7 days at $15, enough for maps and messages in Nouméa.
New Caledonia has one mobile network, Mobilis, run by the OPT. Nomad names Mobilis and Ubigi names OPT, so both land on the same towers. Signal is strongest in Nouméa, along the main roads of the Grande Terre and around the villages of the Île des Pins and the Loyalty Islands, and thins out in the mountains of the interior, in the far north and on the reef islets.
New Caledonia belongs to France but is outside the European Union, so the EU rules that let you roam at home prices do not apply here. If you have a European plan, check its rate for New Caledonia before you land, or turn data roaming off and use a travel eSIM.

What to do in New Caledonia, and what your phone needs for it. Eight places most first trips include, from Nouméa and its lagoon to the Île des Pins, the Loyalty Islands of Lifou and Ouvéa, the red earth of the Great South and the east coast at Hienghène, with the one thing your data does for you at each. The islands are linked to Nouméa by Air Calédonie flights and the Betico ferry. Before you go, check your government's travel advice.
Nouméa, Anse Vata and the Baie des Citrons, Nouméa, Grande Terre. The capital sits on a peninsula of bays and marinas. Its two town beaches, Anse Vata and the Baie des Citrons, have calm water, cafés along the sand and boats out to the lagoon islets. The currency is the CFP franc. A currency app checks prices, and small shops and market stalls often prefer cash.
The Amédée lighthouse, Îlot Amédée, off Nouméa. A tall white metal lighthouse, lit since 1865, stands on a small sandy islet at the edge of the lagoon. Day boats from Nouméa go out for the climb, the snorkelling and lunch on the island. Book the boat online a day or two ahead, and check the wind forecast: trips are called off in rough weather.
The Piscine Naturelle, Oro Bay, Île des Pins. A natural pool of clear, still water behind a reef, reached through the forest from Oro Bay and lined by the tall column pines that give the island its name. Go at mid morning for the best light in the water. Signal is patchy on the forest path. Save the island map offline before you leave your lodge.
Kanumera Bay, Kuto, Île des Pins. A white sand bay beside Kuto Bay, with a rock islet a short swim out and good snorkelling along the reef. The rock is sacred to the local people, so it is not climbed. The Betico ferry and flights from Nouméa both land near Kuto. Check the ferry timetable online, as crossings do not run every day.
The Jokin cliffs, Lifou, Loyalty Islands. Coral cliffs drop into clear water over the reef on the north coast of Lifou, the largest of the Loyalty Islands. The island also has long beaches, caves and vanilla farms. Buses are few and taxis must be called. Keep your lodge and driver on WhatsApp and save an offline map.
The lagoon of Ouvéa, Ouvéa, Loyalty Islands. A long, flat island with one of the longest white beaches in the Pacific, facing a turquoise lagoon dotted with small islets. The lagoons of New Caledonia are on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Ouvéa is quiet, with few shops. Take cash from Nouméa and download anything you need before you fly.
The Blue River park, Great South, Grande Terre. A provincial park of red earth, rivers and rainforest about an hour and a half from Nouméa, with giant kauri trees and the drowned forest of the Yaté lake. It is one of the best places to see the kagu, the island's grey flightless bird. Do not count on signal inside the park. Download the trail map and tell someone your route before you set out.
The Brooding Hen of Hienghène, Hienghène, east coast. Black limestone rocks rise from the sea at the mouth of Hienghène bay, the best known of them shaped like a hen on her nest. The east coast around it is green, with waterfalls and stays in Kanak tribal villages, and Bourail on the west coast makes a good stop on the drive. It is a long drive from Nouméa. Save offline maps for the cross island road, where signal drops in the mountains.
