1 · The short answer

The Rainforest World Music Festival is usually held in June at the Sarawak Cultural Village, on the Santubong peninsula about 35 minutes by road from Kuching. The 2026 edition, the 29th, ran from 26 to 28 June. The organiser had not published 2027 dates when we checked, so look at the official site before you book flights and rooms.

Most visitors fly into Kuching, stay in the city or at Damai, and take the festival shuttle. Your e-ticket is exchanged for a wristband at Damai Central, so keep the booking confirmation on your phone.

2 · What to expect

The festival is set in the grounds of the Sarawak Cultural Village, with the rainforest and Mount Santubong behind the main stage. Daytime workshops and talks are followed by evening concerts from artists around the world. Tickets are sold online through the link on the organiser's site.

3 · Getting to Kuching and to Damai

  • ✓Flights: Kuching International Airport has direct flights from Kuala Lumpur and other Malaysian cities, and some regional routes. Book early for festival weekend.
  • ✓Shuttle: The organiser's festival guide describes a shuttle between Kuching and the Sarawak Cultural Village, and says shuttle buses are free for everyone. The same page also lists shuttle van fares, so confirm which applies on the official site.
  • ✓Entry: Go to Damai Central first, collect your wristband against your e-ticket or booking confirmation, and wear it at all times.
  • ✓Driving: The guide points drivers to the Santubong T-Junction, where parking is limited.

4 · What your phone has to do

  • ✓Tickets: Keep the e-ticket and booking confirmation as a screenshot as well as in your email, in case the signal drops at the gate.
  • ✓Grab: Grab works in Kuching for getting back to your hotel, but cars are hard to find on the peninsula at the end of the night. Check the shuttle times before you rely on a ride.
  • ✓Signal on site: Thousands of phones share the cells at the grounds. Save your maps and shuttle times offline.
  • ✓Cashless: Cards and QR payments are common in Kuching, but festival stalls may not take them. Bring some cash.

5 · What to bring

The organiser asks you to bring your ticket, your wristband and water; refill points are provided on site. Outside food and drink is not allowed. It is tropical and rain can come at any time, so a light rain jacket and a charged power bank help.

6 · Which plan covers the trip

Ringo Light's Malaysia plan covers Sarawak, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia on one eSIM with unlimited data at full speed. If you go on to Indonesia or Brunei, the Global plan covers the countries on your route.
