The short answer
Airalo is the travel eSIM most people already know for Malaysia. Ringo Light is ours. Priced on the same day, Ringo Light is cheaper for about two weeks of unlimited, $22.99 against $48.50, and for a month, $35.99 against $71. Airalo wins where we sell nothing: 3 days of unlimited for $11.50, 10 GB for $20, and it names its network, Maxis. Here is the whole picture, row by row.
Unlimited data at full speed for 2 weeks at $22.99 or 30 days at $35.99, nothing renews, no app. Airalo asks $48.50 for 15 days and $71 for the month.
Unlimited for 3 days at $11.50 and 7 days at $27 on Maxis, its Sambungkan plan. Buckets from $4 for 1 GB, 10 GB for $20, 20 GB for $32. Needs its app, which shows your balance.

Airalo vs Ringo Light in one paragraph
For two weeks or a month of unlimited data in Malaysia, Ringo Light is cheaper than Airalo by a wide margin: $22.99 against $48.50 for about two weeks, $35.99 against $71 for 30 days, and ours is unlimited data at full speed while Airalo slows to 1 Mbps after 3 GB a day. Airalo wins everything we do not sell. It has a 3-day plan at $11.50 and a 7-day plan at $27. It sells buckets, from $4 for 1 GB to 20 GB for $32, and its 10 GB for 30 days at $20 is cheaper than our cheapest trip. It names its network, Maxis, where we say local partner network. It has an app that shows your balance; we send an email. Pick Airalo for a few days, for a bucket, or if you want Maxis by name. Pick Ringo Light for two weeks or a month of unlimited, which is most first trips to Malaysia.
Price: the same trip at each
Priced on 25 October 2026, in US dollars. For about two weeks of unlimited, Airalo asks $48.50 for 15 days and Ringo Light $22.99 for 2 weeks. Airalo's plan runs one day longer and costs more than twice as much. For a month, Airalo asks $71 for 30 days and Ringo Light $35.99. Those are the two rows most people in Malaysia need, and Ringo Light wins both.
Airalo wins the short rows outright, because we sell nothing there. For 3 days of unlimited, Airalo asks $11.50; Ringo Light has no 3-day plan. For 7 days, Airalo asks $27; Ringo Light has no 7-day plan, though our 2 weeks at $22.99 costs less than Airalo's week and lasts twice as long. If you want to pay for exactly the days you stay, Airalo is the one of the two that lets you.
For a fixed amount of data, Airalo is the only one of the two that sells it: 10 GB for 30 days at $20, 20 GB for $32, and buckets from $4 for 1 GB. Ringo Light sells no buckets. If 10 GB over a month is all you need, Airalo at $20 is cheaper than our 2 weeks at $22.99, and lasts 30 days. We would rather you read that here than at checkout. The 10 GB chart on this page is the one chart Airalo wins.
What unlimited means at each
Airalo's unlimited for Malaysia, the Sambungkan plan, gives 3 GB a day at full speed, then slows to 1 Mbps for the rest of the day. That covers maps, messages, Grab and an hour or two of video; a long evening of streaming in HD will hit it. Ringo Light is unlimited data at full speed for the whole 2 weeks or 30 days, with no daily figure. Fair use policy, see Terms. If you work from cafés in Kuala Lumpur or upload video every day, that difference matters more than the price.
Networks and coverage in Malaysia
Malaysia has two big networks, Maxis and CelcomDigi, plus U Mobile, Unifi and Yes. All of them cover Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Malacca and the main highways well, most with 5G in the cities. Coverage thins in the rainforest, on the mountain roads of the Cameron Highlands, on the East Coast islands and in the interior of Sabah and Sarawak on Borneo, where Maxis and CelcomDigi reach furthest. Airalo's own page names Maxis, which is a real advantage if you want to know the network before you buy. Ringo Light rides a local partner network and does not name it. For the classic city and coast route either works; download offline maps before a Borneo trek or an island crossing.
Installation, app and support
Airalo needs its app: you buy, install and top up inside it, you can see how much of a bucket is left, and its support chat lives there too. Ringo Light needs no app; the eSIM arrives by email in seconds and installs in one scan of the QR code, and support is by email. If you like an app with a balance on screen, Airalo gives you one. If you want nothing to download, Ringo Light is the lighter of the two. Whichever you pick, install it at home before you fly and switch it on for data when you land at KLIA or KLIA2.
What Ringo Light is, and what it is not
Ringo Light is our own data eSIM, sold to fund the full Ringo, one plan that works everywhere with your own number ported onto it. For Malaysia it sells two trips, both unlimited data at full speed: 2 weeks at $22.99 and 30 days at $35.99. One payment, nothing renews, no app.
What it is not: it is data only, with no phone number, no buckets, no 3-day or 7-day plan. Calls go over apps that use data. If you want 10 GB for a month, Airalo at $20 is the better buy. If you want 3 days, Airalo at $11.50 is the only one of the two that sells it. For two weeks or a month of unlimited, Ringo Light is the cheaper by far.
