Airalo vs Nomad in one paragraph
Nomad is cheaper than Airalo for New Zealand at every length both sell: $11 against $11.50 for 3 days, $25 against $27 for a week, $18 against $24 for 10 GB and $28 against $38 for 20 GB. The catch is length. Nomad's unlimited stops at 10 days, at $33, so for 15 days or a month only Airalo sells unlimited, at $48 and $71. Both ride Spark, both slow you down on unlimited, Nomad after 2 GB a day and Airalo after 3 GB, and both sell buckets. Pick Nomad for a short trip or a bucket. Pick Airalo if you want unlimited days for 15 or 30 days from one of these two. If the trip is two weeks or a month and you want unlimited, neither is the cheapest: Ringo Light sells 2 weeks at $25.99 and 30 days at $48.99, unlimited data at full speed.
Price: the same trip at each
Priced on 25 October 2026, in US dollars. For 3 days of unlimited, $11.50 at Airalo and $11 at Nomad. For a week, $27 at Airalo and $25 at Nomad. Nomad sells no 15-day unlimited and no 30-day unlimited, only 10 days at $33, so there is no Nomad price to set against Airalo's $48 for 15 days or $71 for 30 days, and we do not guess one.
Ringo Light sells two trips for New Zealand: 2 weeks at $25.99 and 30 days at $48.99. The 2 weeks costs $22.01 less than Airalo's 15 days at $48, and $7.01 less than Nomad's 10 days at $33, with four more days. It costs $1.01 less than Airalo's week at $27 and $0.99 more than Nomad's week at $25. The 30 days costs $22.01 less than Airalo's $71. Ringo Light sells no 3-day plan: for a few days in Auckland, Nomad at $11 or Airalo at $11.50 is the cheaper buy.
For a fixed amount of data, both sell it: 10 GB for 30 days at $18 at Nomad and $24 at Airalo, 20 GB at $28 and $38. Ringo Light sells no buckets. If 10 GB is all you need, Nomad is $7.99 cheaper than Ringo Light's $25.99 and Airalo $1.99 cheaper; for 20 GB, both cost less than our 30 days at $48.99. We would rather you read that here than at checkout.
What unlimited means at each
Airalo's unlimited for New Zealand gives 3 GB a day at full speed, then slows to 1 Mbps for the rest of the day. Nomad's gives 2 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps. Both are enough for maps, messages and some video; a long day of HD streaming will hit either, Nomad sooner. Ringo Light is unlimited data at full speed for the whole 2 weeks or 30 days. Fair use policy, see Terms.
Networks and coverage in New Zealand
New Zealand has three networks: Spark, One NZ and 2degrees. Airalo and Nomad both ride Spark, so coverage is the same for the two. Ringo Light rides a local partner network. All of them cover the cities, the towns and the main state highways well.
Between towns, in the national parks and on the alpine passes, there are long stretches with no signal on any network. The road from Te Anau to Milford Sound has none for most of its length. Download offline maps before you leave the motel Wi-Fi, whichever eSIM you buy.
Installation, app and support
Airalo needs its app: you buy, install and top up inside it, and that is also where its support chat lives. Nomad's app is optional. Ringo Light needs no app; the eSIM arrives by email in seconds and installs in one scan, and support is by email. Whichever you pick, install it at home before you fly and switch it on for data when you land.
The cheaper third option: Ringo Light
Ringo Light is our own data eSIM, sold to fund the full Ringo, one plan that works everywhere with your own number ported onto it. For New Zealand it sells two trips, both unlimited data at full speed: 2 weeks at $25.99 and 30 days at $48.99. One payment, nothing renews, no app.
What it does not do: no buckets, no 3-day or 7-day plan, no phone number, data only. Calls go over apps that use data. If you want 10 GB for a month, Nomad at $18 is the better buy. If you want 3 days or exactly a week, Nomad at $11 and $25 is cheaper than anything we sell. For two weeks or a month of unlimited, Ringo Light is the cheapest of the three.

Frequently asked questions
How we compared, and our sources
Airalo, Nomad, Ringo Light
We priced Airalo, Nomad and Ringo Light for New Zealand on 25 October 2026, all on the same day, in US dollars. Each rival's price comes from its own website where it showed dollars, otherwise from an esimdb.com listing, and every source and its date is listed below. Ringo Light's prices come from the catalogue our checkout charges.
We compare the trips people actually book: a week, two weeks and a month of unlimited data, and a 10 GB bucket. We read each brand's fair use and speed rules and quote them as the brands state them. We did not run speed tests, so this page makes no speed claims for any brand.
Ringo Light is our own product. We put it in the table on the same terms as everyone else, and where a rival is the better buy the page says so.
Left out: Holafly, Saily and Ubigi. They sell New Zealand too and are priced on the same day in the full comparison at /blog/best-esim-for-new-zealand. This page answers one question, Airalo or Nomad, so it keeps to those two and the cheaper third option. Left out: Nomad at 15 and 30 days. The full comparison lists no 15-day or 30-day unlimited plan at Nomad, only 10 days at $33, so those two lengths have no Nomad bar in the charts and no price comparison between the two.
