The short answer
Airalo is the travel eSIM most people already know for New Zealand. Ringo Light is ours. Priced on the same day, Ringo Light is cheaper for two weeks of unlimited, $25.99 against $48 for Airalo's 15 days, and for a month, $48.99 against $71. Airalo vs Ringo Light in one paragraph
For two weeks or a month of unlimited data in New Zealand, Ringo Light is cheaper than Airalo, and not by a little: $25.99 against $48 for the two weeks, $48.99 against $71 for the month, with no daily cap on our side. That is the whole case for us, and it is the trip most people take here. Airalo wins the rest. It sells 3 days of unlimited at $11.50 and a week at $27, and we sell neither. It sells buckets, 10 GB for $24 and 20 GB for $38, and we sell none. It names its network, Spark, and we say local partner network. It has an app that shows your balance; we send an eSIM by email and leave it at that. Pick Airalo for a short trip, a fixed amount of data or a named network. Pick Ringo Light for two weeks or a month of unlimited at full speed.
Price: the same trip at each
Priced on 25 October 2026, in US dollars, from each brand's own site. For 3 days of unlimited, Airalo asks $11.50; Ringo Light sells no 3-day plan. For a week, Airalo asks $27; Ringo Light sells no 7-day plan, though its 2 weeks at $25.99 costs a dollar less than Airalo's week, with a week of days to spare. For two weeks, Airalo asks $48 for 15 days and Ringo Light $25.99 for 2 weeks. For a month, Airalo asks $71 and Ringo Light $48.99.
For a fixed amount of data, Airalo is the only one of the two that sells it: 10 GB for 30 days at $24, 20 GB at $38, buckets from $4 for 1 GB. Ringo Light sells no buckets. If 10 GB spread over a month is all you need, Airalo at $24 is cheaper than our 2 weeks at $25.99, and its 20 GB at $38 is cheaper than our 30 days at $48.99. We would rather you read that here than at checkout.
The charts above show two weeks, a month and 10 GB, the three questions the full comparison asks. Airalo has a bar in all three, so all three are here.
What unlimited means at each
Airalo's unlimited for New Zealand gives 3 GB a day at full speed, then slows to 1 Mbps until the next day. That covers maps, messages and an hour or two of video; a long evening of streaming in the campervan will hit it. Ringo Light is unlimited data at full speed for the whole 2 weeks or 30 days. Fair use policy, see Terms. Neither plan renews; both end when the days run out.
Networks and coverage in New Zealand
New Zealand has three networks: Spark, One NZ and 2degrees. All three cover the cities, the towns and the main state highways well. Airalo names Spark on its own page. Ringo Light rides a local partner network, which we do not name on the page. If knowing the network before you buy matters to you, that is a row Airalo wins. Between towns, in the national parks and on the alpine passes, there are long stretches with no signal on any network, and no eSIM changes that. The road from Te Anau to Milford Sound has no mobile signal for most of its length. Download offline maps for each day's drive before you leave the motel Wi-Fi, whichever eSIM you carry.
Installation, app and support
Airalo needs its app: you buy, install and top up inside it, it shows how much data is left, and its support chat lives there too. Ringo Light needs no app; the eSIM arrives by email in seconds, installs in one scan, and support is by email. If you like a balance on screen, Airalo gives you one and we do not. Whichever you pick, install it at home before you fly and switch it on for data when you land in Auckland, Christchurch or Queenstown.
What Ringo Light is, and what it is not
Ringo Light is our own data eSIM, sold to fund the full Ringo, one plan that works everywhere with your own number ported onto it. For New Zealand it sells two trips, both unlimited data at full speed: 2 weeks at $25.99 and 30 days at $48.99. One payment, nothing renews, no app.
What it is not: it is data only, there is no phone number, no buckets, no 3-day or 7-day plan, and nothing renews. Calls go over apps that use data. If you want 10 GB for a month, Airalo at $24 is the better buy. If you want 3 days, Airalo at $11.50 is the only one of the two that sells it.
The comparison of all the brands that sell New Zealand, with Holafly, Saily, Nomad and Ubigi priced the same day, is at /blog/best-esim-for-new-zealand. The card to buy Ringo Light is further up this page, just after the side-by-side table.

We compare the trips people actually book: a week, two weeks and a month of unlimited data, and a 10 GB bucket. We read each brand's fair use and speed rules and quote them as the brands state them. We did not run speed tests, so this page makes no speed claims for any brand.
Ringo Light is our own product. We put it in the table on the same terms as everyone else, and where a rival is the better buy the page says so.
Left out: Holafly, Saily, Nomad and Ubigi. They sell New Zealand too and are priced on the same day in the full comparison at /blog/best-esim-for-new-zealand. We could not read its own prices for this country on the day, so it stays out rather than being guessed.
