The short answer
No travel eSIM sells Porto on its own. Each one sells a Portugal plan that works in the city, the Douro valley and everywhere else. We priced the six that get most of the traffic on the same day, for a short break, a week and a month, and looked at what your phone has to do between the airport, the old town and the train up the river.
Unlimited data at full speed for 2 weeks at $16.99 or 30 days at $26.99, nothing renews. Airalo asks $48 for 15 days and $69 for the month.
10 GB for 30 days at $11 and 20 GB at $19 on its Fofo Mobil plan, which rides NOS.
20 GB at full speed for 7 days at $19, then 2 Mbps, and 10 GB for 30 days at $11. On MEO with 5G.
Days, not gigabytes, no daily cap stated for your own phone, on MEO, NOS and Vodafone. $27.50 for a week.
Prices read on 22 October 2026: Airalo, Holafly, Saily, Nomad, Ubigi on their own sites or listings, Ringo Light from its catalogue. All in US dollars unless stated. Treat every number as a snapshot.

The 30-day plan at each brand. Ringo Light is unlimited data at full speed. Ubigi's month is 60 GB at full speed, then 2 Mbps.
Holafly sells no buckets. Ringo Light sells no bucket either: its 2 weeks is unlimited and lasts 2 weeks, not 30 days.

What to do in Porto, and what your phone does for you there
Six places for a first visit to Porto, from the riverside quays to the vineyards up the Douro. Most are within walking distance or a short metro ride, and the last needs a train, so plan that day on your phone.
Landing at Francisco Sá Carneiro airport
Porto's airport, OPO, is on the northern edge of the city and carries the name of a former prime minister, Francisco Sá Carneiro. Turn your eSIM on once the plane has landed. By the time you have walked to the belts you can open a map, check the hotel address and book a ride if you want one.
Metro line E, the violet line, starts at the airport and runs into the centre in around half an hour. Taxis and ride-hailing cars queue outside arrivals as well. Look up the stop nearest your bed before you leave the terminal, and check the first and last departures if your flight is early or late.
The metro, the Andante card and the old trams
Porto's metro, buses and many suburban trains run on one rechargeable card called Andante. You buy it from a machine in a metro station and load it with single trips or a day pass. The cost depends on how many zones you cross, and the airport sits in an outer one, so read the screen on the machine and check the current fares before you pay.
The heritage trams run only on a few short lines, and the stops by the river fill quickly in summer. A live map will tell you whether the next car is five minutes away or fifty. Check which ticket method is current when you arrive.
Signal on the hills and down by the river
Porto falls steeply from the Clérigos tower down to the Douro, and the lanes of the Ribeira lie at the bottom of the slope, under the iron bridge. In the open squares and along the quays the signal is normally fine. Inside the narrowest lanes, the older buildings and the lower deck of the bridge, it can weaken, so check before you rely on it for a booking.
Google Maps routes you through the stairs and lanes as if they were roads, and the blue dot can wander. Take a screenshot of your hotel address, and a second one of the way back, before a long evening by the water. Save an offline map of the old town as a spare.
The Douro day trip and signal in the valley
The best day out of Porto is up the Douro. The train from São Bento follows the river for much of the way to Pinhão and Régua, and boats run on the water in the other direction. It is a long day, so check the timetable and the last train back before you set off.
Out in the valley the data connection is less steady than in the city. The line runs through tunnels and along bends where the hills block the signal, and some vineyards sit well away from the villages. Download a map of the area, keep tickets and reservations where you can open them without a connection, and expect gaps rather than a clean signal all day.
Which plan fits a Porto trip
A short break in Porto: Ringo Light sells 3 days of unlimited data at $8.99, against $11 at Nomad, $11.50 at Airalo and $11.90 at Holafly. That is the price for a Friday to Monday.
A week: Nomad sells 7 days at $25, Saily $26.99, Airalo $27 and Holafly $27.50. Ringo Light has no 7-day plan, but its 2 weeks of unlimited data costs $16.99, less than any of those weeks, so you pay less and have days to spare.
A month based in Porto, with a laptop and the odd weekend in Lisbon or the Algarve: Ringo Light 30 days at $26.99. One plan covers every city in Portugal, so nothing needs to change when you take the train south.
If you are visiting from the EU
EU roaming applies to visitors from the EU. If your own plan is from an EU country, it normally works in Porto at home prices, within a fair use limit, so read your plan before you buy anything. Visitors from outside the EU usually pay roaming fees at home, which is where a travel eSIM saves money.

If a fixed amount of data is all you need, Airalo and Ubigi sell 10 GB for 30 days at $11, and Ringo Light has no buckets. You can buy it on the card further up the page, after the side-by-side table.

We compare the trips people actually book: a week, two weeks and a month of unlimited data, and a 10 GB bucket. We read each brand's fair use and speed rules and quote them as the brands state them. We did not run speed tests, so this page makes no speed claims for any brand.
Ringo Light is our own product. We put it in the table on the same terms as everyone else, and where a rival is the better buy the page says so.
Left out: Maya Mobile. We could not read its own prices for this country on the day, so it stays out rather than being guessed.
