1 · The short answer
Guadeloupe Carnival usually runs from Epiphany in early January to Ash Wednesday, with parades most Sundays and the biggest days in the last weekend and on Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday. The main parades are in Pointe-à-Pitre, and towns on Basse-Terre hold their own. The tourism board listed the 2026 season as 1 January to 18 February; check its site for the next dates.
Guadeloupe is part of France, so EU roaming applies for SIMs from other EU countries. If you come from outside the EU, Ringo Light's Guadeloupe plan has unlimited data at full speed and installs by scan before you fly.
Ringo Light's Guadeloupe plan covers the whole of Guadeloupe: unlimited data at full speed, 2 weeks for $21.99 or 30 days for $35.99, nothing renews. The plan is at ringoesim.com/guadeloupe, and every brand's price for Guadeloupe is compared on one day in Best eSIM for Guadeloupe.

2 · What happens at carnival
Carnival groups in costume parade through town to drums and brass, with a different theme in each group. The streets close to traffic, and crowds are large on the main Sundays. Parade routes and times are announced each year, so check the town and tourism board pages.
Arrive early, agree a meeting point and keep valuables close in the crowd.
3 · Getting around the islands
- ✓Flying in. Pointe-à-Pitre airport is the main gateway, with flights from France and the Caribbean.
- ✓By car. Car hire is the easiest way to move between Grande-Terre and Basse-Terre. Roads near parade routes close, so park outside the centre.
- ✓By bus. Public buses and minibuses run between towns, but less often in the evening and on parade days. Check times locally.
- ✓Taxis. Taxis exist but can be hard to find when parades end. Book a return in advance.
4 · What your phone has to do
- ✓Crowds. Data slows in the dense parade crowds. Save the meeting point and the hotel address offline.
- ✓Paying. Cards work in shops and restaurants, and the currency is the euro. Carry some cash for street stalls.
- ✓Maps. Download offline maps of Pointe-à-Pitre and the island for car journeys in the hills.
- ✓Emergencies. The emergency number is 112, as across the EU.
5 · Roaming in Guadeloupe
Guadeloupe is a French overseas region, inside the EU roaming area. A SIM from another EU country uses its home allowance here within fair use. The local networks are French operators.
6 · Which plan covers the carnival
Ringo Light's Guadeloupe plan covers the islands with unlimited data at full speed. It arrives by email and installs in one scan.
