1 · The short answer

Riyadh Season is the capital's long entertainment season, and it usually runs from about October to March. It is made of themed zones, concerts, sport, comedy and food, spread across the city rather than held in one place. The start and end dates change from year to year, so check the organiser's site, riyadhseason.com, for the current edition before you book flights.

Most of it runs on your phone: tickets, zone maps, ride apps and card payments. Ringo Light's Saudi Arabia plan covers Riyadh and the rest of the kingdom with unlimited data at full speed, and it installs before you fly.

Ringo Light's Saudi Arabia plan covers the whole of Saudi Arabia: unlimited data at full speed, 2 weeks for $22.99 or 30 days for $50.99, nothing renews. The plan is at ringoesim.com/saudi-arabia, and every brand's price for Riyadh is compared on one day in Best eSIM for Riyadh.

2 · What Riyadh Season is

Instead of one venue, the season is a set of zones and events across Riyadh, each with its own programme, opening hours and ticketing. Some are free to enter and some sell tickets for individual shows. The mix changes each year, so look at the official programme for the zones that are open on your dates.

Evenings are the busy time. Zones open in the afternoon or evening and fill up after dark, especially from Thursday to Saturday, when the Saudi weekend begins.

3 · Getting there and around Riyadh

  • ✓Airport. King Khalid International Airport is about 35 km north of the centre. Taxis and ride apps run from the terminals; ask your hotel about the route that day.
  • ✓Riyadh Metro. The metro opened in stages and links several parts of the city. Check the operator's site for which lines and stations are running and whether one serves your zone.
  • ✓Uber and Careem. Both work in Riyadh. Evening demand around the zones is high, so expect waits and surge pricing when shows finish, and agree a meeting point away from the main gate.
  • ✓Traffic. Roads around big venues jam on show nights. Leave early and keep your pickup point saved offline.

4 · What your phone has to do

  • ✓Tickets. Event tickets are usually sold through an official platform and held in its app as a QR code. Download the ticket in advance and keep a screenshot, because signal drops when thousands of phones share a cell.
  • ✓Maps and zones. Save the area on offline maps and screenshot the zone map; the sites are large and the walk between entrances can be long.
  • ✓Ride apps. Uber and Careem need data to book and to track your driver, and a plan that works the moment you land.
  • ✓Paying. Cards and phone wallets are accepted almost everywhere in Riyadh, and many food stalls are cashless.
  • ✓Signal in crowds. Saudi networks are fast, but a packed zone slows uploads. Post photos later, from your hotel or a cafe.

5 · When to go and what to expect

The season starts in the autumn, when Riyadh is still warm, and runs through the cooler winter months, when evenings are comfortable. Pack light layers for night time and shoes for a lot of walking.

Riyadh is a long way from the other sights in the kingdom. If you add AlUla, Jeddah or Madinah, the same eSIM covers them, so there is nothing to change.

6 · Which plan covers the trip

Ringo Light's Saudi Arabia plan covers Riyadh, Jeddah, AlUla, Makkah and Madinah with unlimited data at full speed. It arrives by email, installs in one scan and needs no app. Install it before you fly, so your ticket app and your ride apps are ready when you land. The price is on the plan page.
