Airalo vs Holafly in one paragraph

Holafly is the only one of these two with unlimited data for Austria, from $11.90 for 3 days up to $73.90 for 30. Airalo's Servus Austria plan is buckets only, and its 10 GB at $11 beats Ringo Light's 2 weeks at $14.99 if a fixed amount of data is enough. If you want unlimited, Ringo Light costs less than Holafly for 3 days, two weeks and a month.

Price: the same trip at each

Holafly's unlimited costs $11.90 for 3 days, $27.50 for a week, $50.50 for 15 days and $73.90 for 30 days. Airalo has nothing to set beside those, because it sells no unlimited plan for Austria.

Ringo Light sells three trips for Austria, all unlimited data at full speed: 3 days at $8.99, 2 weeks at $14.99 and 30 days at $26.99. Three days is $2.91 under Holafly's $11.90. Two weeks at $14.99 costs less than Holafly's week at $27.50, and it is $35.51 under Holafly's 15 days at $50.50. A month is $46.91 under, $26.99 against $73.90. There is no 7-day plan.

Buckets are Airalo's side of the table. 10 GB for 30 days is $11, less than Ringo Light's 2 weeks at $14.99, and it lasts 30 days against 2 weeks. 20 GB is $16, less than Ringo Light's 30 days at $26.99, for the same 30 days. Holafly sells no buckets, and neither does Ringo Light. We would rather you read that here than at checkout.

What unlimited means at each

Airalo has nothing unlimited for Austria, so its Servus Austria plan is just a fixed amount of data. Holafly states no daily cap for data on your own phone, and limits hotspot sharing to 1 GB a day. It sells days, not gigabytes. Ringo Light is unlimited data at full speed for the whole 3 days, 2 weeks or 30 days. Fair use policy, see Terms.

Networks and coverage in Austria

Austria has three networks: A1, Magenta and 3, also called Drei. All three cover Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Graz well, and the main rail lines. The Alps are the hard part. Deep valleys, high passes and the national parks have gaps on every network. Holafly's own page warns of weaker coverage in parts of Tyrol, the Hohe Tauern and the Salzkammergut.

Airalo does not name its Austrian network, Holafly names 3 (Drei) and Ringo Light rides a local partner network. None of the brands in the full comparison names Magenta. If you plan to hike or drive the high roads, download offline maps before you leave the valley, whichever eSIM you buy.

Installation, app and support

Airalo needs no app in Austria, since you can buy on its site or in its app. Holafly needs no app, because it sends a QR code you scan in your phone's settings. Ringo Light needs no app: the eSIM arrives by email in seconds, installs in one scan, and support is by email. Whichever you pick, install it at home before you fly and switch it on for data when you land.

The cheaper third option: Ringo Light

Ringo Light is our own data eSIM. For Austria it sells three trips, all unlimited data at full speed: 3 days at $8.99, 2 weeks at $14.99 and 30 days at $26.99. You pay once, nothing renews and there is no app.

What it does not do: no buckets, no 7-day plan, no phone number. It is data only, and calls go over apps that use data. If you want 10 GB for a month, Airalo sells it at $11. If you want exactly a week, Ringo Light has no 7-day plan, and its 2 weeks at $14.99 is the nearest length.

Saily, Nomad and Ubigi are priced the same day in the full comparison for Austria, at /blog/best-esim-for-austria. The card to buy Ringo Light is further up this page, just after the side-by-side table.

Which to pick

  • Airalo, if you want a bucket. 10 GB for 30 days costs $11 and 20 GB costs $16, on the Servus Austria plan. There is no unlimited option.
  • Holafly, if you refuse a daily cap and want no app. No daily cap stated, a QR code to install, and the 3 network. You buy days, not gigabytes, and there are no buckets.
  • ✓Ringo Light, if the trip is 3 days, two weeks or a month and you want unlimited. Unlimited data at full speed, at $8.99, $14.99 or $26.99. No 7-day plan, and no buckets either.

Pick by trip

A long weekend in Vienna

Ringo Light's 3 days of unlimited is $8.99. Holafly asks $11.90 for the same 3 days.

A week by train, Vienna to Salzburg

Ringo Light has no 7-day plan, so take 2 weeks at $14.99 and let the extra days lapse. Holafly's week costs $27.50.

Two weeks from Vienna to Innsbruck

Ringo Light, 2 weeks, $14.99. Holafly's 15 days is $50.50, and Airalo has no unlimited plan to compare.

A month in Austria

Ringo Light, 30 days, $26.99. Holafly asks $73.90 for the month.

Light use, maps and messages only

Airalo's 10 GB for 30 days at $11 is plenty for maps and messages. Holafly has none, and neither has Ringo Light.

Frequently asked questions

Is Airalo or Holafly better for Austria?+
It depends on what you want to buy. Holafly is the only one with unlimited data for Austria, from $11.90 for 3 days to $73.90 for 30, while Airalo sells buckets only, 10 GB at $11 and 20 GB at $16. If unlimited is the point, Ringo Light is cheaper than Holafly for 3 days, two weeks and a month.
What does unlimited mean at each in Austria?+
Airalo has no unlimited plan for Austria. Holafly states no daily cap for your own phone, though it limits hotspot sharing to 1 GB a day. Ringo Light is unlimited data at full speed.
Which is cheaper for two weeks in Austria, Airalo or Holafly?+
Only Holafly sells a 15-day plan, at $50.50, so Airalo gives no like-for-like price. Ringo Light's 2 weeks of unlimited data at full speed is $14.99, which is less than Holafly's 15 days.
Is there a cheaper eSIM than Airalo and Holafly for Austria?+
For unlimited, yes: Ringo Light is $8.99 for 3 days, $14.99 for 2 weeks and $26.99 for 30 days, priced 28 September 2026. For a 10 GB bucket, Airalo at $11 is the one to look at, because Ringo Light sells no buckets.
Which network does each use in Austria?+
Ringo Light rides a local partner network, while Airalo leaves its Austrian network unnamed and Holafly names 3 (Drei). Coverage holds up in the towns and on the main roads, and thins in the high Alps.
Do I need an app?+
Airalo: no, you can buy on its site. Holafly: no, it sends a QR code. Ringo Light: no, the eSIM arrives by email and installs in one scan.
Does either give me an Austrian phone number?+
No. Airalo, Holafly and Ringo Light are all data only for Austria, so calls go over apps that use data, such as WhatsApp.
Does my EU phone plan work in Austria?+
If your home plan is from an EU country, roaming in Austria is usually included at home prices, within a fair use limit. A travel eSIM needs no registration and works the moment you land. Since 2019 Austrian law requires every prepaid SIM bought there to be registered to your identity.
