Holafly vs Nomad in one paragraph
Nomad is cheaper than Holafly for 3 days and for a week, by $0.90 and $2.50, but it stops at 10 days. Holafly is the one for 15 or 30 days of unlimited, and it states no daily cap on your own phone, where Nomad slows after 2 GB a day. Ringo Light is cheaper than either for 3 days, and cheaper than Holafly at 2 weeks and a month, which Nomad does not sell.
Price: the same trip at each
For 3 days Nomad asks $11 and Holafly $11.90, which is $0.90 less at Nomad. For a week it is $25 against $27.50, $2.50 less at Nomad. Beyond that only Holafly sells unlimited, at $50.50 for 15 days and $73.90 for 30, since Nomad's longest unlimited for Austria is 10 days at $33.
Ringo Light sells three trips for Austria, all unlimited data at full speed: 3 days at $8.99, 2 weeks at $14.99 and 30 days at $26.99. Against Nomad, 3 days is $2.01 under $11, and 2 weeks at $14.99 costs less than Nomad's week at $25. Against Holafly, 3 days is $2.91 under $11.90, 2 weeks is $35.51 under its 15 days at $50.50, and 30 days is $46.91 under its $73.90. Two weeks also costs less than Holafly's week at $27.50. There is no 7-day plan.
For buckets, Nomad sells 10 GB for 30 days at $14 and 20 GB at $19. The 10 GB costs less than Ringo Light's 2 weeks at $14.99, and lasts 30 days against 2 weeks. The 20 GB costs less than Ringo Light's 30 days at $26.99, for the same 30 days. Holafly sells no buckets, and nor does Ringo Light. We would rather you read that here than at checkout.
What unlimited means at each
Holafly states no daily cap for data on your own phone, and hotspot sharing stops at 1 GB a day. It sells days, not gigabytes, and no buckets. Nomad's unlimited is 2 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps. Ringo Light is unlimited data at full speed for the whole 3 days, 2 weeks or 30 days. Fair use policy, see Terms.
Networks and coverage in Austria
Austria has three networks: A1, Magenta and 3, also called Drei. All three cover Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Graz well, and the main rail lines. The Alps are the hard part. Deep valleys, high passes and the national parks have gaps on every network. Holafly's own page warns of weaker coverage in parts of Tyrol, the Hohe Tauern and the Salzkammergut.
Holafly names 3 (Drei), Nomad names A1 and 3 and Ringo Light rides a local partner network. None of the brands in the full comparison names Magenta. If you plan to hike or drive the high roads, download offline maps before you leave the valley, whichever eSIM you buy.
Installation, app and support
Holafly needs no app, because it sends a QR code you scan in your phone's settings. Nomad's app is optional. Ringo Light needs no app: the eSIM arrives by email in seconds, installs in one scan, and support is by email. Whichever you pick, install it at home before you fly and switch it on for data when you land.
The cheaper third option: Ringo Light
Ringo Light is our own data eSIM. For Austria it sells three trips, all unlimited data at full speed: 3 days at $8.99, 2 weeks at $14.99 and 30 days at $26.99. You pay once, nothing renews and there is no app.
What it does not do: no buckets, no 7-day plan, no phone number. It is data only, and calls go over apps that use data. If you want 10 GB for a month, Nomad sells it at $14. If you want exactly a week, Ringo Light has no 7-day plan, and its 2 weeks at $14.99 is the nearest length.
Airalo, Saily and Ubigi are priced the same day in the full comparison for Austria, at /blog/best-esim-for-austria. The card to buy Ringo Light is further up this page, just after the side-by-side table.
