1 · The short answer
The Cape Town Cycle Tour is on 14 March 2027. The main ride is 109 km around the Cape Peninsula, with a 42 km option listed on the organiser's site. The organiser describes a full road closure along the route, so spectators and anyone staying on the Peninsula should plan every journey around it.
Riders and supporters rely on a phone for tracking, ride apps and meeting points. The organiser recommends the SportSplits Tracker app so friends and family can follow riders in real time.
Ringo Light's South Africa plan covers the whole country with unlimited data at full speed. It arrives by email and installs in one scan.

2 · What happens on race day
Thousands of riders take over the Peninsula roads in one morning. The organiser lists suggested spectator spots at Wynberg Hill, Muizenberg, Kalk Bay, Hout Bay and Camps Bay. Entries are made through the organiser's site; check it for fees, deadlines and expo details, which were not listed for 2027 when we checked.
3 · Road closures and getting around
- ✓Closures: The organiser advertises a full road closure for the route. It did not give roads or times on the page we read, so check the race information before you plan a drive.
- ✓Staying: If you stay on the route, be at your viewing spot or your destination early, before the roads close.
- ✓Airport: Cape Town International Airport is about twenty minutes from the centre by car outside race hours. Uber and Bolt both serve it.
- ✓After the ride: Expect traffic and surge pricing in the apps around the finish. Walk a few streets from the finish before you request a car.
4 · What your phone has to do
- ✓Tracking: Install the SportSplits Tracker app before race day and add your rider. Refresh just before they are due, not constantly.
- ✓Uber and Bolt: Both work in Cape Town and are widely used. Match the plate before you get in.
- ✓Cashless: Cards and phone payments are accepted almost everywhere in Cape Town, including cafes along the route.
- ✓Signal in a crowd: At the start, the finish and the busy spectator spots, data slows when thousands of phones are on the same cells. Save your meeting point and e-entry offline.
- ✓Load shedding: South Africa has had scheduled power cuts, and some towers lose signal when they run out of battery. Charge your phone and carry a power bank.
5 · Keeping your phone safe
Phone snatching is a risk in Cape Town, as in many big cities. Check your route inside a car or cafe, not on the pavement, and keep your phone out of sight while waiting at the roadside.
6 · Which plan covers the trip
Ringo Light's South Africa plan covers Cape Town, the Winelands, the Garden Route and the rest of the country on one eSIM with unlimited data at full speed. If your trip continues to Namibia or Kenya, the Global plan covers the countries on your route.
