Holafly vs Saily in one paragraph
Saily is cheaper than Holafly for unlimited in South Africa at both lengths the two share: by $3.51 on 15 days ($59.99 against $63.50) and by $1.91 on 30 days ($109.99 against $111.90). Holafly is the only one of the two with shorter plans, 3 days at $19.90 and a week at $39.50, and it is the only one with no stated daily cap and all four South African networks named: Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom. Saily gives 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 kbps as listed, which is as good as stopped, and does not name its network. Pick Saily if 15 or 30 days is your trip and a few dollars matter. Pick Holafly if you want a short plan, a QR code install or no daily cap. If the trip is two weeks or a month and you want unlimited, neither is the cheapest: Ringo Light sells 2 weeks at $37.99 and 30 days at $66.99, unlimited data at full speed.
Price: the same trip at each
Priced on 22 October 2026, in US dollars. For 15 days of unlimited, Holafly asks $63.50 and Saily $59.99. For 30 days, Holafly asks $111.90 and Saily $109.99. Saily sells no 3-day or 7-day plan; Holafly asks $19.90 and $39.50 for those. The gaps are small: $3.51 on 15 days, $1.91 on the month.
Ringo Light sells two trips for South Africa: 2 weeks at $37.99 and 30 days at $66.99. The 2 weeks costs $25.51 less than Holafly's 15 days and $22.00 less than Saily's. The 30 days costs $44.91 less than Holafly's month and $43.00 less than Saily's. Against Holafly's week at $39.50, our 2 weeks costs $1.51 less. Ringo Light sells no 3-day plan: for a long weekend in Cape Town, Holafly at $19.90 is the only one of the two that sells one.
Holafly sells no buckets, and Saily's buckets showed conflicting prices on the day, so there is no data-bucket comparison on this page. Ringo Light sells no buckets either.
What unlimited means at each
Holafly states no daily cap for your own phone and limits hotspot sharing to 1 GB a day. Saily's listing gives 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 kbps, which is too slow for anything but the odd text; a long day of maps and video will run into it. Ringo Light is unlimited data at full speed for the whole 2 weeks or 30 days. Fair use policy, see Terms.
Networks and coverage in South Africa
South Africa has four networks: Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom. Holafly lists all four. Saily does not name its network. Ringo Light rides a local partner network. Every network covers Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and the main highways well. Signal thins out in the national parks, on mountain passes and on long stretches of the Garden Route and the Karoo, whichever eSIM you buy, so download offline maps before you drive.
The country has also lived through long spells of scheduled power cuts, called load-shedding. Cell towers run on backup batteries during a cut, and in a long one some of them go quiet. The EskomSePush app shows the schedule for the area you are in.
Installation, app and support
Saily needs its app: you buy and install inside it. Holafly lists its app as optional; a QR code installs it from your phone's settings. Ringo Light needs no app; the eSIM arrives by email in seconds and installs in one scan, and support is by email. A local SIM has to be registered under RICA with a passport and an address before it works; a travel eSIM installs at home before you fly and connects when you land at O.R. Tambo or Cape Town.
The cheaper third option: Ringo Light
Ringo Light is our own data eSIM. For South Africa it sells two trips, both unlimited data at full speed: 2 weeks at $37.99 and 30 days at $66.99. One payment, nothing renews, no app.
What it does not do: no buckets, no 3-day or 7-day plan, data only. If you want 3 days, Holafly at $19.90 is cheaper than anything we sell. For two weeks or a month of unlimited, Ringo Light is the cheapest of the three.

How we compared, and our sources
Holafly, Saily, Ringo Light
We priced Holafly, Saily and Ringo Light for South Africa on 22 October 2026, all on the same day, in US dollars. Each rival's price comes from its own website where it showed dollars, otherwise from an esimdb.com listing, and every source and its date is listed below. Ringo Light's prices come from the catalogue our checkout charges.
We compare the trips people actually book: a week, two weeks and a month of unlimited data, and a 10 GB bucket. We read each brand's fair use and speed rules and quote them as the brands state them. We did not run speed tests, so this page makes no speed claims for any brand.
Ringo Light is our own product. We put it in the table on the same terms as everyone else, and where a rival is the better buy the page says so.
Left out: Airalo, Nomad and Ubigi. They sell South Africa too and are priced on the same day in the full comparison at /blog/best-esim-for-south-africa. This page answers one question, Holafly or Saily, so it keeps to those two and the cheaper third option. Left out: Saily's data buckets. Its 10 GB and 20 GB showed conflicting prices on the day, and Holafly sells no buckets, so there is no bucket comparison and no bucket chart here. Left out: Maya Mobile. We could not read its own prices for this country on the day, so it stays out rather than being guessed.
- Holafly: esim.holafly.com/esim-south-africa/, read on the site in dollars, 22 October 2026
- Saily: esimdb.com/south-africa/saily, esimdb.com and saily.com refused the fetch on 22 October 2026; unlimited 15 and 30 day prices as last shown on the esimdb listing; buckets left out because the listings disagreed
