1 · The short answer

The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027 runs from 2 October to 21 November across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia: 14 teams and 57 matches at 12 venues. The group stage starts on 7 October in Cape Town, India play Pakistan in Johannesburg on 10 October, the semi-finals are in Cape Town and Tshwane, and the final is in Johannesburg on 21 November.

Most of the tournament, and every knockout match, is in South Africa. Ringo Light's South Africa plan covers it with unlimited data at full speed; it arrives by email and installs in one scan. Be clear on one thing: Ringo Light does not list Zimbabwe or Namibia as covered countries, so if you follow a team to Bulawayo, Victoria Falls, Harare or Windhoek, treat your phone as offline there and save everything before you cross the border.

2 · Getting to the grounds

Johannesburg's O.R. Tambo and Cape Town International are the main gateways, with frequent domestic flights between the host cities. In Johannesburg, the Gautrain links the airport with Sandton, the closest hub for the Wanderers, and many fans finish the trip by rideshare. In Cape Town, Newlands is in the southern suburbs, reachable by the suburban train or a short rideshare from the city centre.

Rideshare apps are the usual way to get around South African cities, especially after an evening match. Save your hotel address and the ground's pickup point before the match starts.

3 · The ICC ballot and tickets

  • ✓Ballot system. The ICC opened a ballot when it revealed the schedule, so demand for the big matches, such as India against Pakistan, is decided by draw. Check the official tournament site for the current sale phase.
  • ✓Mobile tickets. Expect tickets to be delivered digitally. Load them before you leave the hotel so they open without signal at the gate.
  • ✓Official app. The ICC app has fixtures, scores and match centre updates.
  • ✓Paying. Cards and phone wallets are widely accepted at South African grounds and in the cities.

4 · Signal at a full ground

A sold-out Wanderers or Newlands for a marquee match means tens of thousands of phones on the same cells for a whole day. Messages get through, but video uploads slow badly at the big moments, a wicket or a six, when everyone posts at once. Set photos to send later and keep your battery for the ride home.

One day internationals are long. Bring a power bank, sun protection and water, and agree a meeting point with your group in case you lose each other at a break.

5 · South Africa around the cricket

Cape Town is the obvious extension: Table Mountain, Boulders Beach and its penguins, and the winelands. In Johannesburg, Soweto and the Apartheid Museum tell the country's story. Kruger National Park is a short flight or a long drive from Johannesburg for a safari between matches.
