1 · The short answer
The Cape Town International Jazz Festival has been held in Cape Town for over two decades, traditionally on a weekend in late March at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), with South African and international artists across several stages. For 2027, the organisers have announced that the festival will spread across the month of March, with two headline weekends and community concerts; check the official site for the confirmed dates, venues and line up before you book.
Festival nights end late, and getting back to your accommodation safely matters more than anything else. Have data for Uber or Bolt, keep your phone out of sight on the street, and download tickets offline.

2 · What to expect
The festival brings together jazz in its widest sense, from South African jazz legends to soul, hip hop and African pop, with multiple stages running into the night. Around the main event, free community concerts and workshops have been part of the programme. Tickets are sold through the official channels and delivered digitally.
3 · Your phone, safety and signal
- ✓Out of sight: Phone snatching is a risk in Cape Town, as in many big cities. Check your route inside a venue or car, not on the pavement.
- ✓Ride apps: Uber and Bolt are the usual way home after a late show. Wait inside and match the plate before getting in.
- ✓Crowds: Inside the venue, thousands of phones share the cells, so uploads slow at peak times. Save your e-ticket offline.
- ✓Power cuts: When South Africa has scheduled power cuts (load shedding), some cell towers run on batteries and can lose signal. Keep a power bank charged.
4 · Getting there and getting around
- ✓Airport: Cape Town International Airport is about twenty minutes by car from the city centre, traffic permitting. Uber and Bolt both serve the airport.
- ✓MyCiTi bus: The city's bus network links the airport, the city centre and the Atlantic seaboard, using a myconnect card.
- ✓Walking: The CTICC is on the Foreshore near the city centre and the V&A Waterfront. Walking short distances by day is fine; use a car at night.
5 · Apps and payments
- ✓Uber and Bolt: Widely used and generally the safest way around at night.
- ✓Cards: Card and phone payments are accepted almost everywhere, including at festival bars.
- ✓Messages: WhatsApp is used by hotels, guides and drivers across South Africa.
6 · Which plan covers the trip
The Ringo Light plan for South Africa covers Cape Town, the Winelands, the Garden Route and the whole country on one eSIM with unlimited data at full speed. If you are travelling on to Kenya, Tanzania or further, the Global plan covers the countries on your route.
7 · Around Cape Town in festival season
Late summer is a fine time for the Cape. Daytime trips around the festival.
