Airalo vs Nomad in one paragraph

Nomad is the better buy for a bucket or a week: its 10 GB for 30 days is $16 against Airalo's $19.50, and its 20 GB is $20 against $30.50. For 3 days the two are level. Airalo is the one for 15 or 30 days of unlimited, since Nomad stops at 10 days. Ringo Light is cheaper than both at 3 days, and it sells the 2-week and 30-day trips that Nomad does not.

Price: the same trip at each

Both ask $11 for 3 days of unlimited. For a week Nomad asks $25 and Airalo $26.50, which is $1.50 less at Nomad. Beyond that only Airalo sells unlimited, $48 for 15 days and $69 for 30. Nomad's longest unlimited for Iceland is 10 days at $33.

Ringo Light sells three trips for Iceland, all unlimited data at full speed: 3 days at $8.99, 2 weeks at $16.99 and 30 days at $32.99. Three days is $2.01 under the $11 that Airalo and Nomad both ask. Two weeks at $16.99 costs less than a week at either, $25 at Nomad and $26.50 at Airalo. Against Airalo's longer plans, 2 weeks is $31.01 under its 15 days at $48 and 30 days is $36.01 under its $69. There is no 7-day plan.

Buckets favour Nomad. 10 GB for 30 days is $16 at Nomad and $19.50 at Airalo, $3.50 less at Nomad. 20 GB is $20 against $30.50, $10.50 less at Nomad. Nomad's 10 GB costs less than Ringo Light's 2 weeks at $16.99, and Airalo's costs more, though both last 30 days against 2 weeks. Both 20 GB buckets cost less than Ringo Light's 30 days at $32.99, for the same 30 days. Ringo Light sells no buckets. We would rather you read that here than at checkout.

What unlimited means at each

Airalo's unlimited for Iceland, the Nenna Mobile plan, gives 3 GB a day at full speed, then slows to 1 Mbps. Nomad gives 2 GB a day at full speed and then 1 Mbps. Ringo Light is unlimited data at full speed for the whole 3 days, 2 weeks or 30 days. Fair use policy, see Terms.

Networks and coverage in Iceland

Iceland has three mobile networks: Síminn, Vodafone, run by Sýn, and Nova. All three cover Reykjavik, the towns and nearly all of Route 1, the Ring Road. Coverage thins on some passes in the East Fjords and in the Westfjords. Across most of the highlands, on the F-roads open only in summer, you will be out of signal for long stretches. None of the brands we priced changes that, because they all ride the same three networks.

Airalo names Síminn and Nova, Nomad names Nova and Vodafone and Ringo Light rides a local partner network. Before a day off the main road, download the offline map for the region and leave a travel plan at safetravel.is. The road authority posts live closures and wind warnings at umferdin.is, and the 112 Iceland app sends your position to the emergency line when you do have signal.

Installation, app and support

Airalo needs its app: you buy, install and top up inside it. Nomad's app is optional. Ringo Light needs no app: the eSIM arrives by email in seconds, installs in one scan, and support is by email. Whichever you pick, install it at home before you fly and switch it on for data when you land.

The cheaper third option: Ringo Light

Ringo Light is our own data eSIM. For Iceland it sells three trips, all unlimited data at full speed: 3 days at $8.99, 2 weeks at $16.99 and 30 days at $32.99. You pay once, nothing renews and there is no app.

What it does not do: no buckets, no 7-day plan, no phone number. It is data only, and calls go over apps that use data. If you want 10 GB for a month, Airalo at $19.50 and Nomad at $16 both sell it. If you want exactly a week, Ringo Light has no 7-day plan, and its 2 weeks at $16.99 is the nearest length.

Holafly, Saily and Ubigi are priced the same day in the full comparison for Iceland, at /blog/best-esim-for-iceland. The card to buy Ringo Light is further up this page, just after the side-by-side table.

Which is cheaper for two weeks in Iceland, Airalo or Nomad?+
Only Airalo sells a 15-day plan, at $48, so Nomad offers no like-for-like price. Ringo Light's 2 weeks of unlimited data at full speed is $16.99, which is less than Airalo's 15 days.
Is there a cheaper eSIM than Airalo and Nomad for Iceland?+
For unlimited, yes: Ringo Light is $8.99 for 3 days, $16.99 for 2 weeks and $32.99 for 30 days, priced 28 September 2026. For a 10 GB bucket, Nomad at $16 and Airalo at $19.50 are the ones to look at, since Ringo Light sells none.

Does either give me an Icelandic phone number?+
No. Airalo, Nomad and Ringo Light are all data only for Iceland, so calls go over apps that use data, such as WhatsApp.
Does my EU phone plan work in Iceland?+
Yes, in most cases. Iceland is in the European Economic Area, so a plan from an EU country roams there at home prices, within a fair use limit. Travellers from the US, the UK, Canada or Australia usually pay a daily roaming fee, and that is where a travel eSIM saves money.
