Airalo vs Saily in one paragraph

Airalo wins this one on price, though never by much: $0.99 at 15 days, $2.99 at 30, $0.49 on 10 GB and $1.49 on 20 GB. It also sells the 3-day and 7-day trips that Saily does not. Saily's edge is a bigger daily allowance, 5 GB at full speed against Airalo's 3. Ringo Light, unlimited data at full speed, is cheaper than Airalo at 3 days and cheaper than both at 2 weeks and a month.

Price: the same trip at each

Airalo sells unlimited at $11 for 3 days, $26.50 for a week, $48 for 15 days and $69 for 30. Saily starts later. It has no 3-day or 7-day plan, with 5 days at $18.99 the nearest to 3 days. Its 15 days costs $48.99, $0.99 more than Airalo, and its 30 days $71.99, $2.99 more.

Ringo Light sells three trips for Iceland, all unlimited data at full speed: 3 days at $8.99, 2 weeks at $16.99 and 30 days at $32.99. Three days is $2.01 under Airalo's $11. Two weeks at $16.99 costs less than Airalo's week at $26.50, and it is $31.01 under Airalo's 15 days at $48 and $32 under Saily's at $48.99. A month at $32.99 is $36.01 under Airalo's $69 and $39 under Saily's $71.99. There is no 7-day plan.

The two are close on buckets. 10 GB for 30 days is $19.50 at Airalo and $19.99 at Saily, $0.49 less at Airalo. 20 GB is $30.50 against $31.99, $1.49 less at Airalo. Both 10 GB buckets cost more than Ringo Light's 2 weeks at $16.99, though they last 30 days against 2 weeks. Both 20 GB buckets cost less than Ringo Light's 30 days at $32.99, for the same 30 days. Ringo Light sells no buckets. We would rather you read that here than at checkout.

What unlimited means at each

Airalo's unlimited for Iceland, the Nenna Mobile plan, gives 3 GB a day at full speed, then slows to 1 Mbps. Saily gives 5 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps. Ringo Light is unlimited data at full speed for the whole 3 days, 2 weeks or 30 days. Fair use policy, see Terms.

Networks and coverage in Iceland

Iceland has three mobile networks: Síminn, Vodafone, run by Sýn, and Nova. All three cover Reykjavik, the towns and nearly all of Route 1, the Ring Road. Coverage thins on some passes in the East Fjords and in the Westfjords. Across most of the highlands, on the F-roads open only in summer, you will be out of signal for long stretches. None of the brands we priced changes that, because they all ride the same three networks.

Airalo names Síminn and Nova, Saily does not name its network on its listing and Ringo Light rides a local partner network. Before a day off the main road, download the offline map for the region and leave a travel plan at safetravel.is. The road authority posts live closures and wind warnings at umferdin.is, and the 112 Iceland app sends your position to the emergency line when you do have signal.

Installation, app and support

Airalo needs its app: you buy, install and top up inside it. Saily needs its app. Ringo Light needs no app: the eSIM arrives by email in seconds, installs in one scan, and support is by email. Whichever you pick, install it at home before you fly and switch it on for data when you land.

The cheaper third option: Ringo Light

Ringo Light is our own data eSIM. For Iceland it sells three trips, all unlimited data at full speed: 3 days at $8.99, 2 weeks at $16.99 and 30 days at $32.99. You pay once, nothing renews and there is no app.

What it does not do: no buckets, no 7-day plan, no phone number. It is data only, and calls go over apps that use data. If you want 10 GB for a month, Airalo at $19.50 and Saily at $19.99 both sell it. If you want exactly a week, Ringo Light has no 7-day plan, and its 2 weeks at $16.99 is the nearest length.

Holafly, Nomad and Ubigi are priced the same day in the full comparison for Iceland, at /blog/best-esim-for-iceland. The card to buy Ringo Light is further up this page, just after the side-by-side table.

  • Saily, if you want 5 GB a day at full speed. Unlimited at $48.99 for 15 days and $71.99 for 30, plus 10 GB for 30 days at $19.99. The listing is from June and saily.com refused the fetch, so check the price at checkout.
