Holafly vs Saily in one paragraph
Holafly is the choice for a short trip, since Saily has no 3-day or 7-day plan. Saily is cheaper for 15 or 30 days, by $1.51 and $1.91, and it sells buckets that Holafly does not. Holafly states no daily cap on your own phone, while Saily's unlimited slows after 5 GB a day. Ringo Light, unlimited data at full speed, is cheaper than both for 2 weeks and a month, and cheaper than Holafly at 3 days.
Price: the same trip at each
Holafly's unlimited costs $11.90 for 3 days, $27.50 for a week, $50.50 for 15 days and $73.90 for 30 days. Saily has no 3-day or 7-day plan for Iceland, and its nearest to 3 days is 5 days at $18.99. At 15 days Saily asks $48.99, which is $1.51 less, and at 30 days $71.99, which is $1.91 less.
Ringo Light sells three trips for Iceland, all unlimited data at full speed: 3 days at $8.99, 2 weeks at $16.99 and 30 days at $32.99. Three days is $2.91 under Holafly's $11.90. Two weeks at $16.99 costs less than Holafly's week at $27.50, and it is $33.51 under Holafly's 15 days at $50.50 and $32 under Saily's at $48.99. A month at $32.99 is $40.91 under Holafly's $73.90 and $39 under Saily's $71.99. There is no 7-day plan.
Saily sells buckets and Holafly does not. Saily's 10 GB for 30 days is $19.99, which costs more than Ringo Light's 2 weeks at $16.99, though it lasts 30 days against 2 weeks. Its 20 GB is $31.99, which costs less than Ringo Light's 30 days at $32.99, for the same 30 days. Ringo Light sells no buckets. We would rather you read that here than at checkout.
What unlimited means at each
Holafly states no daily cap for data on your own phone, and limits hotspot sharing to 1 GB a day. It sells days, not gigabytes, and no buckets. Saily's unlimited gives 5 GB a day at full speed, then slows to 1 Mbps. Ringo Light is unlimited data at full speed for the whole 3 days, 2 weeks or 30 days. Fair use policy, see Terms.
Networks and coverage in Iceland
Iceland has three mobile networks: Síminn, Vodafone, run by Sýn, and Nova. All three cover Reykjavik, the towns and nearly all of Route 1, the Ring Road. Coverage thins on some passes in the East Fjords and in the Westfjords. Across most of the highlands, on the F-roads open only in summer, you will be out of signal for long stretches. None of the brands we priced changes that, because they all ride the same three networks.
Holafly names Nova and Sýn, Saily does not name its network on its listing and Ringo Light rides a local partner network. Before a day off the main road, download the offline map for the region and leave a travel plan at safetravel.is. The road authority posts live closures and wind warnings at umferdin.is, and the 112 Iceland app sends your position to the emergency line when you do have signal.
Installation, app and support
Holafly needs no app, because it sends a QR code you scan in your phone's settings. Saily needs its app. Ringo Light needs no app: the eSIM arrives by email in seconds, installs in one scan, and support is by email. Whichever you pick, install it at home before you fly and switch it on for data when you land.
The cheaper third option: Ringo Light
Ringo Light is our own data eSIM. For Iceland it sells three trips, all unlimited data at full speed: 3 days at $8.99, 2 weeks at $16.99 and 30 days at $32.99. You pay once, nothing renews and there is no app.
What it does not do: no buckets, no 7-day plan, no phone number. It is data only, and calls go over apps that use data. If you want 10 GB for a month, Saily sells it at $19.99. If you want exactly a week, Ringo Light has no 7-day plan, and its 2 weeks at $16.99 is the nearest length.
Airalo, Nomad and Ubigi are priced the same day in the full comparison for Iceland, at /blog/best-esim-for-iceland. The card to buy Ringo Light is further up this page, just after the side-by-side table.
