Holafly vs Nomad in one paragraph
Nomad is cheaper than Holafly for 3 days and for a week, by $0.90 and $2.50, but it stops at 10 days. Holafly is the one for 15 or 30 days of unlimited, and it states no daily cap on your own phone, where Nomad slows after 2 GB a day. Ringo Light is cheaper than either for 3 days, and cheaper than Holafly at 2 weeks and a month, which Nomad does not sell.
Price: the same trip at each
For 3 days Nomad asks $11 and Holafly $11.90, which is $0.90 less at Nomad. For a week it is $25 against $27.50, $2.50 less at Nomad. Beyond that only Holafly sells unlimited, at $50.50 for 15 days and $73.90 for 30, since Nomad's longest unlimited for Iceland is 10 days at $33.
Ringo Light sells three trips for Iceland, all unlimited data at full speed: 3 days at $8.99, 2 weeks at $16.99 and 30 days at $32.99. Against Nomad, 3 days is $2.01 under $11, and 2 weeks at $16.99 costs less than Nomad's week at $25. Against Holafly, 3 days is $2.91 under $11.90, 2 weeks is $33.51 under its 15 days at $50.50, and 30 days is $40.91 under its $73.90. Two weeks also costs less than Holafly's week at $27.50. There is no 7-day plan.
Nomad sells buckets, 10 GB for 30 days at $16 and 20 GB at $20, and Holafly sells none. The 10 GB costs less than Ringo Light's 2 weeks at $16.99, and lasts 30 days against 2 weeks. The 20 GB costs less than Ringo Light's 30 days at $32.99, for the same 30 days. Ringo Light sells no buckets. We would rather you read that here than at checkout.
What unlimited means at each
Holafly states no daily cap for data on your own phone, and hotspot sharing stops at 1 GB a day. It sells days, not gigabytes, and no buckets. Nomad's unlimited is 2 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps. Ringo Light is unlimited data at full speed for the whole 3 days, 2 weeks or 30 days. Fair use policy, see Terms.
Networks and coverage in Iceland
Iceland has three mobile networks: Síminn, Vodafone, run by Sýn, and Nova. All three cover Reykjavik, the towns and nearly all of Route 1, the Ring Road. Coverage thins on some passes in the East Fjords and in the Westfjords. Across most of the highlands, on the F-roads open only in summer, you will be out of signal for long stretches. None of the brands we priced changes that, because they all ride the same three networks.
Holafly names Nova and Sýn, Nomad names Nova and Vodafone and Ringo Light rides a local partner network. Before a day off the main road, download the offline map for the region and leave a travel plan at safetravel.is. The road authority posts live closures and wind warnings at umferdin.is, and the 112 Iceland app sends your position to the emergency line when you do have signal.
Installation, app and support
Holafly needs no app, because it sends a QR code you scan in your phone's settings. Nomad's app is optional. Ringo Light needs no app: the eSIM arrives by email in seconds, installs in one scan, and support is by email. Whichever you pick, install it at home before you fly and switch it on for data when you land.
The cheaper third option: Ringo Light
Ringo Light is our own data eSIM. For Iceland it sells three trips, all unlimited data at full speed: 3 days at $8.99, 2 weeks at $16.99 and 30 days at $32.99. You pay once, nothing renews and there is no app.
What it does not do: no buckets, no 7-day plan, no phone number. It is data only, and calls go over apps that use data. If you want 10 GB for a month, Nomad sells it at $16. If you want exactly a week, Ringo Light has no 7-day plan, and its 2 weeks at $16.99 is the nearest length.
Airalo, Saily and Ubigi are priced the same day in the full comparison for Iceland, at /blog/best-esim-for-iceland. The card to buy Ringo Light is further up this page, just after the side-by-side table.
