1 · The short answer
The Cheltenham Festival 2027 runs from Tuesday 16 to Friday 19 March at Cheltenham Racecourse, on the edge of the Cotswolds. The four days are Champion Day, Ladies Day, St Patrick's Thursday and Gold Cup Day. The racecourse postcode is GL50 4SH, and on race days you follow the temporary yellow signs rather than the permanent brown ones.
Most visitors arrive by train to Cheltenham Spa station, or by coach, and then take a bus to the course, so the phone is doing a lot: tickets, timetables and a meeting point in a very large crowd. Ringo Light's United Kingdom plan covers England and the rest of the country with unlimited data at full speed, arrives by email and installs in one scan. The UK is outside the EU roam-like-at-home rules since Brexit, which matters if you fly in from Ireland or Europe.

2 · Getting to the racecourse
Cheltenham Spa is the town's railway station, and the Festival's own travel advice points visitors to bus journeys from there to the course, and to coach travel with National Express. Check the official Travel and Parking page for the current bus stops, times and any advance booking, because the shuttle details for 2027 were not confirmed when this page was written. On-site parking needs a car parking pass from the organiser.
If you fly into Birmingham or Bristol, or take a train from London Paddington via Swindon or from Birmingham, use a live train app and leave early. The last bus and train home fill up after the Gold Cup.
3 · Tickets and the day
- ✓Book early. The organiser advises booking early, since some enclosures are likely to sell out. Buy only from The Jockey Club's own ticket page.
- ✓Keep the ticket on your phone. If your ticket is digital, save it to your phone wallet or screenshot it on Wi-Fi so that it opens at a busy gate. Check the official page for how your tickets are delivered.
- ✓Paying. Cards and phone wallets are the easy way to pay for food, drink and the tote. Many people carry little cash.
- ✓Know the days. Champion Day, Ladies Day, St Patrick's Thursday and Gold Cup Day each have their own character, so check which one your ticket is for.
4 · Signal in a huge crowd
On the biggest days, tens of thousands of people fill the grounds, and mobile networks around the course slow down, especially before the big races and as the crowd leaves. Messages usually arrive late, and photo uploads can stall. Agree a meeting point by landmark, such as the Parade Ring or a named bar, and avoid relying on calls to find each other.
Save your ticket, the course map and your journey home before you go in. With those downloaded, live data matters mostly for transport updates and messages.
5 · Cold, battery and wet weather
March at Cheltenham can be cold and wet, and a cold phone loses battery quickly. Keep it in an inside pocket, bring a small power bank and dim the screen. A waterproof pouch is cheap and keeps the phone dry in a downpour.
Betting and race apps use a lot of power, so close them between races. Your charge should last until the bus ride back.
6 · What to do around Cheltenham
Cheltenham town has a Regency centre, the Promenade and many pubs, which fill up during the Festival. The Cotswolds villages and hills are a short drive away, and Gloucester and its cathedral are a short train ride north.
