1 · The short answer
Most trips to Vietnam start or end in Hanoi, and every travel eSIM sells it as part of its Vietnam plan. We priced the six that get most of the traffic on the same day, for a few days in the capital, a week with Ha Long Bay and Ninh Binh, and two weeks down the length of the country, and looked at what your phone does from Noi Bai to the Old Quarter.
Unlimited data at full speed for 2 weeks at $22.99, less than any rival here charges for 7 days. 30 days at $42.99. Nothing renews.
3 days of unlimited at $11.50 on its Xin Chao plan, on Vinaphone. Ringo Light sells no 3-day plan.
10 GB for 30 days at $12.90 on VNPT, if maps and messages are all you need. Ubigi sells no Vietnam unlimited.
Days, not gigabytes, on Vinaphone. $27.50 for a week; sharing limited to 1 GB a day.
Prices read on 27 September 2026: Airalo, Holafly, Saily, Nomad, Ubigi on their own sites or listings, Ringo Light from its catalogue. All in US dollars unless stated. Treat every number as a snapshot.

4 · What to do in Hanoi, and what your phone does for you there
Six places for a first trip to Hanoi and the trips out of it. The city has strong 4G and 5G; the bay and the mountains less so.
5 · Getting online at Noi Bai
Flights to Hanoi land at Noi Bai, about 45 minutes north of the Old Quarter by road. The terminals have 4G and 5G, so install your eSIM at home, leave it switched off, and turn it on for data when you land. You can book a Grab car to the city before you reach the exit.
Grab is how most visitors get around Hanoi, by car or on the back of a motorbike, with the price fixed in the app before you ride. It needs data the whole time.
6 · Hanoi and the trips out on your phone
Vietnam's networks, Viettel, Vinaphone and MobiFone, cover Hanoi well, and the Old Quarter's narrow streets are no problem. Coverage also holds on the expressway to Ha Long Bay and in Ninh Binh. Out on the water among the islands of Ha Long and Lan Ha Bay the signal comes and goes; cruise boats often have Wi-Fi.
Sapa and the far north are a different matter: the town has signal, but on the trekking trails and in the valleys it fades. Download offline maps before you head into the hills.
7 · Which plan fits a Hanoi trip
A few days in the city: Airalo sells 3 days of unlimited at $11.50 and Holafly at $11.90. Ringo Light sells no 3-day plan.
A week with Ha Long and Ninh Binh: Airalo asks $27 and Holafly $27.50; Nomad and Saily stop at 5 days, at $18 and $22.99. Ringo Light 2 weeks of unlimited data at full speed costs $22.99, less than any rival's week.
Two weeks from Hanoi down to Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City: Airalo $48, Saily $48.99 and Holafly $50.50 for 15 days, against Ringo Light 2 weeks at $22.99 for the whole country. A month: $42.99.

11 · How we compared, and our sources
We priced Airalo, Holafly, Saily, Nomad, Ubigi and Ringo Light for Hanoi on 27 September 2026, all on the same day, in US dollars. Each rival's price comes from its own website where it showed dollars, otherwise from an esimdb.com listing, and every source and its date is listed below. Ringo Light's prices come from the catalogue our checkout charges.
We compare the trips people actually book: a week, two weeks and a month of unlimited data, and a 10 GB bucket. We read each brand's fair use and speed rules and quote them as the brands state them. We did not run speed tests, so this page makes no speed claims for any brand.
Ringo Light is our own product. We put it in the table on the same terms as everyone else, and where a rival is the better buy the page says so.
Left out: Maya Mobile. We could not read its own prices for this country on the day, so it stays out rather than being guessed.
