1 · The short answer

The US Open is the last Grand Slam of the year, played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens. It usually runs from the last week of August to the second week of September, with Fan Week and qualifying before the main draw. The USTA had not published the 2027 dates on its own site when we checked, so confirm them at usopen.org before you book.

2 · Getting to Flushing Meadows

The 7 subway line runs from Times Square and Grand Central to Mets-Willets Point, a short boardwalk walk from the East Gate. The Long Island Rail Road's Port Washington branch stops at the same station from Penn Station and is quicker, with extra trains during the tournament.

Pay for the subway by tapping a contactless card or phone wallet with OMNY at the turnstile. From JFK and LaGuardia, a taxi or rideshare to the grounds is short; Newark is a much longer trip across the city.

3 · Tickets and the official app

  • ✓Mobile tickets only. US Open tickets are mobile, held in the official US Open app or your Ticketmaster account. Log in and add them to your phone wallet before you leave the hotel.
  • ✓Grounds passes and stadium seats. A grounds pass gets you onto the outside courts in the first week; a reserved seat in Arthur Ashe Stadium also gives you grounds access for that session. Day and night sessions are sold separately.
  • ✓Order of play. The app shows live scores, the schedule and court maps. Matches move when rain stops play on the uncovered courts.
  • ✓Paying. The grounds have been cashless in recent years: bring a card or phone wallet that works in the US without foreign fees.

4 · Signal in Arthur Ashe Stadium

Arthur Ashe is the largest tennis stadium in the world, and on a big night session it is full. Add the crowds around Louis Armstrong and the outside courts and tens of thousands of phones share the same cells. Messages get through, but uploads slow down sharply, especially at changeovers when everyone posts at once.

Keep your ticket in the wallet, download the grounds map, and set videos to send later. Agree a meeting point, such as the Unisphere or the fountain plaza, before your group splits up.

5 · Queueing at the gates

Bag checks at the East and South Gates are the bottleneck, and the line is longest just before the first session starts. Bring the smallest bag you can and check the bag policy in the app before you go. Arriving an hour early on the first weekend is worth it if you want a seat on the outside courts.

6 · New York around the tennis

Flushing Meadows itself has the Unisphere and the Queens Museum. Flushing's food halls are one stop away on the 7 train. Back in Manhattan, a free morning is enough for Central Park, the Brooklyn Bridge walk or the Staten Island Ferry past the Statue of Liberty.

7 · Around the US Open

The tennis is in Queens, and the rest of New York is a subway ride away.
