1 · The short answer

Art Basel lists its Hong Kong fair for 25 to 27 March 2027. The fair takes place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on the Wan Chai waterfront, and the week around it, Hong Kong Art Week, brings gallery openings in Central, museum shows in West Kowloon and a second fair on the harbourfront.

Ringo Light's Hong Kong plan covers the whole territory: unlimited data at full speed, delivered by email and installed with one scan. Hong Kong uses its own networks, separate from mainland China, so maps, messaging and email work as they do at home. If your trip continues to other cities in Asia, the Asia plan covers Hong Kong and the rest on one eSIM.

2 · How the convention centre is laid out

The fair occupies large halls on two levels of the convention centre, linked by escalators. Galleries are grouped by sector, with the main Galleries sector alongside Insights, for projects from Asia and the Asia Pacific, and Discoveries, for emerging artists. Encounters, the sector for large installations, sits in its own space, and the film programme and talks run on site.

The Art Basel app carries floor plans for each level, the exhibitor list and your saved works. With two levels and long aisles, the floor plan matters more here than in most fairs: load it on hotel Wi-Fi before you go, and keep your ticket or card in your phone wallet.

3 · Signal in a packed fair

Hong Kong has dense, fast mobile networks, and the convention centre is well covered. What slows a phone down is the crowd: on preview days thousands of people move through the same halls, sending images at the same moment. Messages go through; large uploads and video lag at the busiest booths.

Send files in batches from the lobbies or the harbourside promenade, and let your messaging app queue large images. A local data line also helps when you need to share a work with a client while standing in front of it, without hunting for a Wi-Fi login.

4 · Art Week across the city

  • ✓Art Central. The second fair of the week, held on the Central harbourfront. Check its own site for dates.
  • ✓M+. The museum of visual culture in the West Kowloon Cultural District, one of the largest of its kind in Asia.
  • ✓Tai Kwun. The former Central Police Station compound, now a centre for heritage and contemporary art, with JC Contemporary galleries.
  • ✓Gallery buildings in Central. Several international galleries are stacked in towers such as H Queen's on Queen's Road Central, and hold openings in fair week.

5 · Getting there and getting around

Hong Kong International Airport connects to the city by the Airport Express, which runs to Hong Kong station in Central in about twenty five minutes. From there, the MTR covers the rest. Exhibition Centre station, on the East Rail line, sits beside the convention centre, and Wan Chai station on the Island line is a short covered walk away.

An Octopus card, or Octopus in your phone wallet, pays for the MTR, trams, buses and ferries, as well as convenience stores. The Star Ferry from Wan Chai pier to Tsim Sha Tsui is the easiest way across the harbour to West Kowloon. Taxis are plentiful, but at the end of a fair day the ranks queue; the MTR is usually faster.
