2 · The Palais and the festival map

The Palais des Festivals et des Congrès sits at the western end of the Croisette, by the old port. It holds the Grand Théâtre Lumière, home of the red carpet and the competition, the Debussy theatre and other screening rooms, and the Marché du Film, which spreads through the lower levels and the Riviera hall next door. The parallel sections, the Directors' Fortnight and Critics' Week, screen in their own venues along the Croisette.

Most screenings in the Palais are for accredited badge holders, who book seats through the festival's online ticketing; the general public can see films at the free Cinéma de la Plage on the beach and through the festival's programmes for film lovers and young audiences. Whichever applies to you, keep your badge and tickets on your phone and charged: the queue at the door is not the place for a flat battery.

3 · Signal on a packed Croisette

Around the Palais on a premiere night, crowds of fans, photographers and festival guests stand in a few hundred metres of seafront, and the mobile network feels it. Messages lag and uploads stall exactly when everyone is filming the steps. Inside the Palais, the lower market levels are where coverage is weakest.

Download your tickets and screening confirmations as soon as they arrive, set photos to send later, and arrange meeting points rather than relying on live location. A day of back to back meetings, maps and video calls will drain a phone quickly, so carry a battery pack.

4 · Badges, tickets and the market

  • ✓Accreditation. Press, industry and market badges are applied for in advance through the festival and the Marché du Film.
  • ✓Screening tickets. Badge holders book screenings online and present them on their phone at the door.
  • ✓Marché du Film. Market screenings and meetings run on its own platform; keep your schedule saved offline.
  • ✓Paying. Cards and phone wallets are accepted almost everywhere in Cannes.

5 · Getting there and getting around

Nice Côte d'Azur Airport is the gateway, about thirty kilometres away. Regional TER trains run along the coast from Nice to Cannes station, a short walk from the Croisette, and there are buses and taxis from the airport. During the festival, the roads into Cannes are slow and parking near the Palais is very limited.

In town, almost everything is walkable: the Palais, the hotels along the Croisette, the old port and Le Suquet. Many guests stay in Nice, Antibes or Mandelieu and commute by train; check the SNCF Connect app for the last trains home after evening screenings.

6 · Around the Cannes Film Festival

Between screenings, Cannes and the coast around it are small enough to explore on foot and by boat.
