1 · The short answer
The Berlin Marathon 2027 is on Sunday 26 September, under a new name: the GENERALI BERLIN-MARATHON. The flat course is famous for fast times and loops through the city from the Tiergarten, finishing through the Brandenburg Gate. Starting places are allocated by lottery.
Runners and supporters lean on their phones all weekend, for the expo, tracking, the U-Bahn and finding each other afterwards. Ringo Light's Germany plan covers Berlin and the whole country with unlimited data at full speed; it arrives by email and installs in one scan.

2 · The entry lottery
According to the organiser's 2026 race briefing, registration for the 2027 entry lottery is open from 1 October to 12 November 2026, with places drawn after it closes. Charity places and tour operator packages are the other routes. Check the official site for the result date and payment deadline.
3 · Getting around on race weekend
Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) is linked to the centre by the S-Bahn and regional trains. On race day the start and finish are in the Tiergarten, near the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate; roads close across the city, so the S-Bahn and U-Bahn are the way to move between viewing spots.
The BVG app sells tickets and shows live departures. Buy your ticket in the app before you set off; inspectors check, and paper ticket machines get long queues on race morning.
4 · Tracking and the official app
- ✓Official app. The marathon's official app offers live tracking of runners by name or bib number, with splits along the course.
- ✓Expo and bib pickup. Runners collect their numbers in person at the expo in the days before the race. Keep your registration confirmation on your phone.
- ✓Meeting after the finish. The finish area beyond the Brandenburg Gate is crowded. Agree a meeting point in the family reunion area in advance.
- ✓Paying. Card acceptance in Berlin has improved a lot, but some bakeries and small bars still prefer cash. Carry a little.
5 · Signal at the Brandenburg Gate
Tens of thousands of runners and huge crowds converge on the last kilometres along Unter den Linden. When everyone refreshes the tracker at the same moment, data slows and video calls fail. Refresh before your runner is due, watch them pass, then move on.
Runners: a phone tracking GPS for three to five hours burns battery fast. Start fully charged and keep it in airplane mode with GPS on if you only need the route.
6 · Berlin around the race
Berlin rewards a few extra days. Walk the East Side Gallery along the Spree, spend a morning on Museum Island, and see the Reichstag dome. The Tiergarten, where the race starts, is a calm place to stretch your legs on Monday.
7 · Around the Berlin Marathon
The race starts and finishes in the centre, so recovery days are easy.
