1 · The short answer

Art Basel lists its Basel fair for 17 to 20 June 2027 at Messe Basel, the exhibition centre on Messeplatz in Kleinbasel, on the north bank of the Rhine. It is the original Art Basel and the busiest week of the year in the city: galleries, collectors, advisers, curators and press arrive from everywhere, and the fair is ringed by satellite fairs, museum openings and dinners.

2 · How Messe Basel is laid out

The fair fills the Messe Basel halls around Messeplatz. The main gallery sector sits on two floors of Hall 2, the Herzog and de Meuron building with the round open courtyard, the City Lounge, cut through its middle. Unlimited, the sector for works too large for a booth, has its own hall next door. Parcours places works in public spaces and buildings around the old town, so part of the fair happens outdoors and on foot.

The floors are large and the booths are numbered by aisle. The official Art Basel app carries the floor plan, the exhibitor list and your saved works; open it once on hotel Wi-Fi so the lists and images are cached before you go in. Your entry ticket or card is digital too: add it to your phone wallet the night before rather than relying on the queue outside to load an email.

3 · Signal in the halls on a preview day

The halls are steel, concrete and glass, and on the first preview day thousands of people stand in the same aisles, all sending images of works to clients and colleagues. Swiss networks are strong and the area is well served, but in the middle of a packed hall uploads are the first thing to slow down. A photo that sends at once in the courtyard can take a while from the back of a booth.

Practical habits help: send images in batches from the City Lounge or outside on Messeplatz, keep video for later, and let your messaging app queue large files. If your work depends on sending condition reports or high resolution files at the booth, ask the gallery for their network or step outside for a minute. 4 · The satellite fairs, museums and Parcours

5 · Getting there and getting around

EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg serves the city; its Swiss exit connects to Basel SBB station by bus. Zurich Airport is about an hour by train. Trains from Zurich, Bern, Geneva and Milan arrive at Basel SBB; trains from Germany stop at Basel Badischer Bahnhof, a short tram ride from Messeplatz.

Hotels in Basel give overnight guests a ticket for local trams and buses, which makes the tram the easiest way between the Messe, the old town and the station. Keep the SBB app on your phone for timetables. Hotel rooms book out early for fair week, and many visitors stay in Zurich, Freiburg or across the French border.

6 · Around Art Basel

The fair is the centre of the week, but the city's museums and its neighbours are why many people stay a few extra days.
