1 · The short answer

Salone del Mobile.Milano lists its 2027 edition for 13 to 18 April 2027 at Fiera Milano in Rho, just outside the city. It is the largest furniture and design fair in the world, and the same week the Fuorisalone turns Milan itself into a design festival, with installations, showrooms and exhibitions in districts from Brera to Tortona. Together they are what most people call Milan Design Week.

Ringo Light's Italy plan covers Milan and the rest of Italy: unlimited data at full speed, delivered by email, installed with one scan. A week split between a fairground the size of a small town and dozens of city venues runs on maps, the metro and messages, all of which need data.

2 · The fairground at Rho

Fiera Milano's Rho site is a long line of pavilions on either side of a covered central walkway, with the fair's sections spread across them: classic, design and luxury furniture, the workplace, the kitchen and bathroom biennials in alternate years, and lighting with Euroluce. SaloneSatellite, the showcase for young designers, has its own space. Walking from one end of the site to the other takes a long time, so plan your pavilions in order.

Tickets are sold online, and the Salone publishes the exhibitor list and site map ahead of the fair. Save your ticket to your phone wallet and the map offline before you take the metro out, as the entrances are busy when the doors open.

3 · Signal on a vast site

The pavilions are large steel halls, and on the opening days they hold huge crowds of architects, designers, buyers and press. Italian networks cover the site, but inside the busiest halls uploads slow down and messages can lag. The central walkway and the open areas between pavilions are where photos send fastest.

Batch your uploads, keep video for the evening, and agree on meeting points with colleagues by pavilion number rather than counting on live location. Carry a battery pack: a day at Rho followed by an evening at the Fuorisalone is long.

4 · The Fuorisalone across the city

  • ✓Brera. The Brera Design District fills showrooms, courtyards and shops in the old streets north of the Duomo.
  • ✓Tortona and Navigli. Former factories and studios in the south west host large brand installations.
  • ✓Isola, Porta Venezia and 5Vie. Smaller districts with galleries, independent designers and historic courtyards.
  • ✓Institutions. Triennale Milano in Parco Sempione and Fondazione Prada in the south of the city hold major shows during the week.

5 · Getting there and getting around

Milan is served by Malpensa, Linate and Bergamo airports. The Malpensa Express runs to Cadorna and Centrale stations, and Linate connects to the centre on metro line M4. High speed trains arrive at Milano Centrale; some also stop at Rho Fiera station, beside the fairground.

Metro line M1 runs from the centre to Rho Fieramilano station, at the fair's entrance; check that you are on a train to Rho, as the line splits. ATM's metro gates accept contactless bank cards, and the ATM Milano app has routes and tickets. In the evening the Fuorisalone districts are best on foot, with trams and the metro between them.
