1 · The short answer

Almost every trip to Jordan is built around Petra: Amman, the drive south, two days among the tombs, a night in Wadi Rum, then the Dead Sea or Aqaba. Every travel eSIM sells it as part of its Jordan plan, and unlimited is scarce here, so we priced the six that get most of the traffic for that circuit and looked at where your phone has signal along it.

4 · The Petra circuit, and what your phone does for you there

Six places on the classic route through Jordan. Amman, Wadi Musa and Aqaba have strong 4G and 5G; the canyons and the desert do not always.

5 · From Amman to Petra on your phone

Flights land at Queen Alia International, south of Amman, with 4G and 5G at the gate. Install your eSIM at home, leave it switched off, and turn it on for data when you land. Petra is about three hours south by the Desert Highway or longer by the King's Highway through Madaba and Kerak, and signal holds along most of both roads, thinning in the emptiest stretches.

Jordan has three networks, Zain, Orange and Umniah, all strong in Amman, Wadi Musa (the town at the gate of Petra) and Aqaba. Every brand here that names its network uses Zain.

6 · Signal inside Petra

There is signal at the visitor centre and along much of the main trail, but the Siq, the narrow canyon that leads to the Treasury, cuts it off in places, and it comes and goes on the climbs to the Monastery and the High Place of Sacrifice. Download the Petra trail map offline before you set off, and agree a meeting point with your group in case you lose each other.

The Jordan Pass, bought online before you travel, covers the tourist visa fee for most nationalities who stay at least three nights, plus entry to Petra and most major sites. Keep it on your phone with your passport.

7 · Which plan fits a Petra trip

Only Holafly sells a Jordan-only unlimited among the five rivals: $13.50 for 3 days, $28.50 for 7 days and $58.90 for 15 days, read on 12 October. Airalo sells unlimited only on its Middle East regional plan ($79 for 15 days) and Ubigi only on its global plan ($77). Saily and Nomad sell buckets only.

Ringo Light charges $26.99 for 2 weeks of unlimited data at full speed, less than Holafly's week. For 3 days, Holafly at $13.50 is cheaper; Ringo Light sells no 3-day plan.

8 · What Ringo Light is

Ringo Light is our own data eSIM, sold to fund the full Ringo, one plan that works everywhere with your own number ported onto it. For Jordan, Petra included, it sells two trips, both unlimited data at full speed: 2 weeks at $26.99 and 30 days at $49.99. Nothing renews. The eSIM arrives by email in seconds and installs in one scan, no app. The card to buy it is further up this page, just after the side-by-side table.

11 · How we compared, and our sources

We priced Airalo, Holafly, Saily, Nomad, Ubigi and Ringo Light for Petra on 28 September 2026, all on the same day, in US dollars. Each rival's price comes from its own website where it showed dollars, otherwise from an esimdb.com listing, and every source and its date is listed below. Ringo Light's prices come from the catalogue our checkout charges.

We compare the trips people actually book: a week, two weeks and a month of unlimited data, and a 10 GB bucket. We read each brand's fair use and speed rules and quote them as the brands state them. We did not run speed tests, so this page makes no speed claims for any brand.

Ringo Light is our own product. We put it in the table on the same terms as everyone else, and where a rival is the better buy the page says so.

Left out: Maya Mobile. We could not read its own prices for this country on the day, so it stays out rather than being guessed.
