2 · Getting to the circuit
TGV trains from Paris Montparnasse reach Le Mans in about an hour, and direct trains also run from Charles de Gaulle airport. From Le Mans station, tram line T1 runs south to the Antarès MMArena stop, close to the circuit entrances. Many fans drive and camp; the campsites have their own access routes and passes.
Book trains early: race week is one of the busiest of the year on this line.
3 · Signal across a 13 km circuit and its campsites
The crowd at Le Mans is spread around a long circuit and huge campsites, but it gathers in the same places at the same time: the start, the grandstands opposite the pits, the village and the Dunlop bridge. Data slows there at peak moments, and overnight, with everyone on their phones in the campsites, uploads can lag too.
Save your tickets, campsite pass and the circuit map offline before you arrive.
4 · Keeping a phone alive for 24 hours
- ✓Bring power. A large power bank, or two, matters more than any app. Charging points at the circuit have queues.
- ✓Follow the race. The official Le Mans and FIA WEC apps carry live timing and results; streaming uses a lot of data and battery.
- ✓Night. Turn screen brightness down and close streaming apps when you are not watching.
- ✓Paying. Cards and phone wallets are widely accepted at the circuit and in town.
5 · What to do around the race
The old town of Le Mans, the Cité Plantagenêt, is one of the best preserved medieval quarters in France, with the Saint-Julien cathedral above it. The 24 Hours museum sits by the circuit, and the Loire châteaux are within a long day's drive.
