Airalo vs Ubigi in one paragraph

Ubigi is cheaper than Airalo for Italy at almost every length, and not by a little. A week of unlimited is $19 at Ubigi and $23 at Airalo. Fifteen days is $25 against $44. Thirty days is $39 against $64. Ten gigabytes for a month is $12 against $19. Ubigi also rides two networks, Iliad and WindTre, with 5G, where Airalo names WindTre alone. Airalo wins two things: it sells a 3-day plan at $11, which Ubigi does not, and you can buy and install it on the web without an app, where Ubigi wants its app to manage the plan. Both give you 5 GB a day at full speed on unlimited, then slow you, Airalo to 1 Mbps and Ubigi to 2 Mbps. Pick Ubigi for the price and the bucket. Pick Airalo for a long weekend or if you refuse to install an app. If the trip is 3 days, two weeks or a month and you want unlimited, neither is the cheapest: Ringo Light sells 3 days at $8.99, 2 weeks at $14.99 and 30 days at $26.99, unlimited data at full speed.

Price: the same trip at each

Priced on 25 October 2026, in US dollars. For 3 days of unlimited, Airalo asks $11; Ubigi sells no 3-day plan. For a week, $23 at Airalo and $19 at Ubigi. For 15 days, $44 at Airalo and $25 at Ubigi. For 30 days, $64 at Airalo and $39 at Ubigi. Ubigi wins every unlimited row where both sell a plan, by $4 on the week, $19 on the 15 days and $25 on the month.

Ringo Light sells three trips for Italy: 3 days at $8.99, 2 weeks at $14.99 and 30 days at $26.99. The 3 days costs less than Airalo's $11. The 2 weeks costs less than Ubigi's 15 days at $25 and about a third of Airalo's $44; it also costs less than either brand's single week, $19 at Ubigi and $23 at Airalo. The 30 days costs less than Ubigi's $39 and Airalo's $64. Ringo Light sells no 7-day plan; its 2 weeks at $14.99 is still the cheaper buy for a week, with a week of days left over.

For a fixed amount of data, Airalo and Ubigi both sell it and Ringo Light does not. Ubigi is the cheaper of the two: 10 GB for 30 days at $12 against $19 at Airalo, and 25 GB at $19 against Airalo's 20 GB at $26. Airalo starts lower, with 1 GB from $4. If 10 GB spread over a month is all you need, Ubigi at $12 is cheaper than Ringo Light's 2 weeks at $14.99, and we would rather you read that here than at checkout.

What unlimited means at each

Airalo and Ubigi draw the same line in Italy: 5 GB a day at full speed on their unlimited plans. After that, Airalo slows you to 1 Mbps and Ubigi to 2 Mbps until the next day. Five gigabytes covers maps, messages, music and a couple of hours of video; a long evening of HD streaming or a laptop on the hotspot can hit it, and Ubigi's 2 Mbps is the kinder speed to be slowed to. Ubigi also sells monthly plans that renew, so read which one you are buying. Ringo Light is unlimited data at full speed for the whole 2 weeks or 30 days, and nothing renews. Fair use policy, see Terms.

Networks and coverage in Italy

Airalo rides WindTre. Ubigi rides Iliad and WindTre, with 5G. Ringo Light rides a local partner network. The cities and the fast rail lines have good 4G and 5G on all of them; the coast and the high valleys are patchier, whichever brand you carry. For Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan any of the three works. If a second network matters to you, Ubigi is the one of the two that names it.

Installation, app and support

Airalo needs no app: you can buy on the web or in the app, and either way you get an eSIM to install. Its refunds end once the eSIM is installed. Ubigi wants its app to manage the plan and handle top-ups, so you install the app and the eSIM. Ringo Light needs no app; the eSIM arrives by email in seconds and installs in one scan, and support is by email. Whichever you pick, install it at home before you fly and switch it on for data when you land at Fiumicino, Malpensa or Venice Marco Polo.

The cheaper third option: Ringo Light

Ringo Light is our own data eSIM, sold to fund the full Ringo, one plan that works everywhere with your own number ported onto it. For Italy it sells three trips, all unlimited data at full speed: 3 days at $8.99, 2 weeks at $14.99 and 30 days at $26.99. One payment, nothing renews, no app.

What it does not do: no buckets, no 7-day plan, no phone number, data only. Calls go over apps that use data. It does not name its Italian network the way Ubigi names Iliad and WindTre. If you want 10 GB to last a month, Ubigi at $12 is the better buy, and its 25 GB at $19 beats anything we sell for a bucket. For 3 days, two weeks or a month of unlimited, Ringo Light is the cheapest of the three.

Left out: Holafly. It sells Italy too, unlimited days only on Vodafone and WindTre, and is priced on the same day in the full comparison at /blog/best-esim-for-italy.
